This Week's Note From Mr. Evan Chelman, Principal

Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

This was an interesting week! Kids, and adults, crave routine and consistency. Thank you for doing your best to get your child to school, attend conferences, make arrangements for the early release, and everything else expected of us in a week such as this!

I want to take a moment to thank all veterans for their service. We take time in school to highlight the holiday and the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families. Please see some pictures below, which represent some of the learning and acknowledging that happened at HRES this week.

Have a terrific weekend and we'll see the kiddos for some normalcy on Monday!

COVID-19 Test Kits

In anticipation of increased travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has provided additional at-home COVID tests for families who want them. There is no testing requirement in our schools; this is an entirely voluntary program. Families with students in any of our K-8 schools that want at-home tests need to fill out THIS FORM (only once per household is necessary) before Wednesday, November 16. Tests will be sent home with requesting students by Tuesday, November 22. Students at AHS can pick them up in their house offices any time before the break, beginning November 17.

Gratitude Challenge

For the next few months Hill Roberts will be focusing on Gratitude and social awareness as a community. Giving thanks and appreciating what we have helps to foster more social and self awareness. There will be several school based activities and projects for grade levels to participate in, but we wanted to extend the invite to families.

Gratitude is the simplest way to change one’s perspective of the world. Learning to be grateful helps us appreciate the little things in life that we tend to take for granted. This practice can help to bring about a feeling of satisfaction and hope.

Being grateful does not mean that we need to deny the fact that negative things happen in life; but taking time to focus on the good things can help us to find some peace and appreciation amongst the bitterness and hardship we may be enduring.

There are a lot of ways to teach and show gratitude. Attached is a family activity you can participate in. If you would like to share how you are practicing gratitude in your home, please send photos, or thoughts to
