There will be rehearsals on Thursday, February 27th or Monday, March 2nd at 4:30 to 6pm in the gym. Jump Rope for Heart
Turner Creek Elementary will be participating in the American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge. The donations that are received will be used by the American Heart Association for research and educational programs to save lives from heart disease and stroke! Raising contributions is voluntary. All students will participate in a special jump rope day during a regular PE class time in February.
Family and friends are welcome to support your child’s participation by making contributions. Please convert all cash to a check(s) payable to the American Heart Association. You can also build a website and email family and friends for donations. The information to do this is on the collection envelope. Don’t forget to ask donors if their employers have matching gift programs. This is an easy way to increase the contributions your child collects.
Contribution envelopes must be returned to Mr. Whilden by Friday, February 21 for all tracks.

PTA Advocacy Committee
You may have seen the news in the past month and heard the words "Leandro Report" but wondered, what is that? In 1997 The Supreme Court of North Carolina’s rendered a decision 'Leandro v. the State of North Carolina' which unanimously affirmed that the state has a constitutional responsibility to provide every student with an equal opportunity for a sound basic education and that the state was failing to meet that responsibility.
In December a report was issued based on the decision of a judge in 2018 requiring the state to create an action plan. This Action Plan provides recommendations for actions that will advance the state’s efforts to achieve compliance with the Leandro decision. It identifies the most critical actions that the state needs to take immediately and carry out over the next six years and beyond to transform the education system and provide the necessary education opportunities for all students.
If you would like more information and links to read further, contact Lisa Mead at advocacy@wakepta.org or Google "Leandro Report".

Box Tops and Tyson A+ Labels
Breaking news! No more clipping!! Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip these and send them to school. Just download the new Box Tops mobile app. Buy Box Tops products….Scan your receipt….Earn cash for Turner Creek! A picture of the new label is pictured to the left. We’ve earned $40 via the app since it was announced in June.
Great Job Turner Creek! We collected $497 in Box Tops since March! The next round of Box Tops will be mailed off at the end of February 2020. Please make sure they have valid dates (dated 3/1/2020 and beyond). If the Box Top is expired, we have to throw them away! The Box Tops collection bin is in the TCE lobby across from the main office. Box Tops are each worth 10¢ and they quickly add up to real cash for our school. Here is a link showing participating Box Tops products.
Clip Tyson Project A+ labels from participating Tyson® product packages and send them to school with your child. We’ll collect the labels and send them to Tyson Foods, and Tyson Foods will send our school a check. Each label is worth 24¢!
Please drop your Tyson Project A+ labels in the Box Tops collection bin in the TCE lobby. Here is a link for a list of participating products.

Help TCE PTA earn $100
Even if you have linked your Harris Teeter VIC card to our school in the past, you must re-link it each summer for the school to earn money when you shop at Harris Teeter. Last year, we raised nearly $600 simply by our families linking their VIC cards to TCE.
For detailed instructions on how to link-up, please visit
Fundraising while Shopping - Turner Creek Elementary - PTA
This year we are hoping to surpass our past income from these programs and use these funds to support our school. Every time you patronize one of the online or local businesses listed below TCE PTA benefits by receiving a monetary donation!
