Lincoln Crossing Colt Connection
Welcome Back to School Edition - August 13, 2018
Mrs. Hladun's Tidings
We've been busy behind the scenes getting ready for the first day of school and I want to extend my deepest thanks to our office team (Pam, Tricia, Michelle and Katy), our custodial team (Rob and Arty), our dedicated PTC, the folks who work at the district office to support our site, and certainly to our teaching and support staff. Together, our team has worked tirelessly throughout the summer (and definitely in the last few weeks!) to ensure we are ready to open our doors to you this week.
I am thrilled to get a new year underway and I look forward to sharing our priorities and plans with you in future Colt Connections. My heart is full of optimism for the months ahead and I know we are going to continue to work together to make Lincoln Crossing a wonderful place to learn, work, and be! It is a great day to be a Colt!
Air Quality & Recess
To that end, we will be closely monitoring the Spare the Air and the AirNow websites in order to inform our plans for recess. In the event that the air is deemed 'unhealthy for sensitive groups,' we will be offering an indoor recess option. If the air quality is in the 'unhealthy' or higher range, we will offer only indoor recess.
If your child is in a sensitive group, please be sure to communicate with our front office.
Info for K & 1st Grade Families
Our 1st Grade Team is hosting a "Meet the Teacher" open house on Wednesday, 8/15 from 3:45-4:15. We invite families to come by to meet your teacher, find your desk, check out your classroom, find new friends, and drop off any school supplies. 1st grade will host Back to School Night presentations on Thursday, 8/23 to give out specific information to parents.
Parking & Drop Off
Starting our Day - grades 1-5
Students will be welcomed onto campus at 7:55 am. When students arrive, they will go directly to the blacktop with their backpack and find their teacher’s line-up spot (it will be identifiable by a sign or in chalk on the blacktop). We will start heading to the classrooms at 8:10 am, and class begins at 8:15 am. Kinder families - we'll share information about drop off with you at the Kinder Back To School Night on Tues., 8/14 at 6 pm.
If your child(ren) walk or ride a bike/scooter/skateboard home, please encourage them to be careful, walk with a buddy and use the crosswalks. All children under age 18 who are riding a bike/scooter/skateboard must wear a helmet per CA law.
We’d ask that if you bring your family pet with you to drop off your child, that you do not take the animal past the blue dots to ensure everyone feels safe. Animals cannot be brought onto campus per district policy.
Families coming onto campus
Families are welcome to join their children in the morning on Thursday and Friday without getting a visitor’s badge. We invite you to walk with your child’s class to his/her classroom. Families of our older students, please say your goodbyes at the door; families of our primary students, please take care to exit the classrooms between 8:20 and 8:30 am, and then to head out to our main patio (in front of the administration building), where our PTC will have coffee and donuts (and maybe tissues!) for our families to enjoy.
Beginning on Monday, 8/20, all family will need to pick up a visitor's badge in the main office before entering campus with their child.
School Supplies
End of the Day
Our end of the day bell rings at 2:40 pm for grades 1-5 and PM K. (AM K dismisses at 11:20 am). Your children will be so excited to see you! It’s important to start establishing a meeting spot or plan for after school.
Children who are getting picked up by a vehicle will be waiting for you behind the blue dots between the administration building and the MPR or behind the blue dots between the back of the administration building and the kindergarten playground.
If you are picking your child up in a vehicle, please plan to drive through our main driveway to collect him/her. We always do our best to keep the traffic flowing.
When you come into the driveway, please stay in or directly next to your car. Do not leave your vehicle unattended unless it is in a parking stall or along the exterior community streets.
If your child(ren) walk or ride a bike/scooter/skateboard home, please encourage them to be careful, walk with a buddy and use the crosswalks. All children under age 18 who are riding a bike/scooter/skateboard must wear a helmet per CA law.
We’d ask that if you bring your family pet with you to pick up your child, that you do not take the animal past the blue dots to ensure everyone feels safe.
First Day Paperwork
The school district is moving to an online emergency card; please watch for more details to come out about that on/shortly after the first day of school. However, your teacher may send home important paperwork for you to review and return. Please return any paperwork directly to your teacher.
