Guzick's 2017-2018 Campus Improvement Plan - Key Actions
Magical Moment "SPOTLIGHT" - Lavontase "Coach" Strickland
This week's Magical Moment Spotlight is on Coach Strickland for exhibiting "quiet" leadership in everything that he does. A typical educator makes 1500 decisions a day. This number increases significantly when you teach over 60 students a class period, lead multiple campus initiatives, and serve as a mentor to an inspiring educator. Coach Strickland does so much and has a huge impact on the success of Guzick in the quietest fashion. That is the true mark of a "LEADER".

District Cell Phone Policy
Upon confiscating the cell phone, Mrs. Pasieczny or I will need to be immediately notified so we can secure the cell phone in the front office and then notify the parent for pick-up based on the policy. If for any reason a student refuses to give you his/her cell phone, this is a Level I offense, and Mrs. Pasieczny and I will need to be contacted immediately.
Please note that a cell phone has to be visible, on, and being used by a student for it to be confiscated by any adult. If a cell phone drops out of a student's pocket, or is visible from their pant's pocket, the cellphone should not be confiscated. Also, if a phone rings during class, and the student is not using the phone, please remind them to power it off.
If you have any questions about the cell phone policy, or if you have any particular scenarios you would like to discuss with me, please let me know.

REMINDER: Checking Emails
Please ensure that you are checking your work email at least twice a day (during the workweek) for any important messages from the office and/or action items that may need your attention. I would suggest once in the morning or mid-day, and again towards the end of the school day.
Checking your work email is especially important when it comes to ensuring a safe after school dismissal. Parents oftentimes contact the front office to make changes to their child's dismissal. We send an email to you as an official record of the change. This is just an example of how critical it is for our work emails to be checked regularly.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
REMINDER: After School Activities Protocol (Tutoring, Clubs, and Sports)
To ensure that students are supervised at all times and we are communicating appropriately with our parents, please review the following after school activities protocol and plan accordingly:
Regular Dismissal @2:45pm
-All students should dismiss according to the regular dismissal process. There should be no students who are walking down the hallway unsupervised. At 3:10pm, students who are in after school activities should be escorted by their dismissal teacher to the cafeteria to be greeted by their sponsor/coach.
-Please refer to the Google doc with the list of after school activities, dates, and student names.
Cancellations
-Cancellations should only occur at least 24 hours before the scheduled activity date. "Day of" cancellations should not be a common practice.
-Parents should be notified of cancellations in writing and if at all possible by phone as well.
-Please send an email to Mrs. Willis and Mrs. Chavez when you are cancelling tutoring so we can communicate the change to parents if they call the front office.
After School Activities Dismissal
-All activities should end before 4:30pm. Students should be outside at 4:30pm for dismissal.
-Please use the red hall or car arrival doors to dismiss. Please do not dismiss from the blue or green hallway doors.
