Academy of Entrepreneurship
Last week Entrepreneurship students participated in our high school's business pitch competition sponsored by Navigant Credit Union where students had the chance to earn funds for their business pitch ideas! In this short video, our Entrepreneurship Instructor Mr. Ballou talks about the competition, followed by an interview with Austin and Aidan, our students who won first and second place!
From PE and Health
Did you know we offer Intro to Sports Medicine as part of our Fitness Instructor Pathway program? Students will explore careers in Sports Medicine and Movement Science. Scituate students learn how principles from Biomechanics and Physiology are applied by Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, and other specialists. Later in the year, students learn the application of fitness principles in 'Physical Training for active Careers' the second course in the pathway. The Fitness Instructor Endorsement can be earned simultaneously while enrolled in other pathways here at Scituate High School. Check out our student made video!
From the Scituate NHS
News from National Honor Society
THANK YOU to everyone who donated hand/foot warmers and thermal socks. Your donations were delivered to Help the Homeless RI on Monday afternoon.
Invitations for National Honor Society candidates were sent via email on Tuesday, Feb 6. Juniors and seniors who are not already NHS members who have a cumulative gpa of 3.9 or higher should have received an invitation. If you did not receive an invitation but think you should have, please contact Mrs. Stormont at maggie.stormont@scituateschoolsri.net.
The invitation email contains instructions that candidates must follow if they are interested in being considered for National Honor Society membership. An invitation does not guarantee acceptance.
From Culinary Arts
International foods students prepared fresh pasta, homemade sauce and Italain bread for lunch this week. This meal was a fan favorite!
Education Pathway Endorsement
This week students in the Working With Children class meet Mrs. Kathleen Schmeling, a parent and Scituate resident, who spoke about her past pregnancies and the joy of raising twins. A great discussion occurred and many questions were asked.
Academy of Engineering
Scituate High School's engineering program received a generous donation this week from the North Warwick Lowes on Greenwich Ave. This included mostly personal protective equipment and equipment for building out the welding education: gloves, welding wire, protective glasses, welder's pliers, welding caps, cutting oil, paintbrushes, and two fire-festooned auto-darkening helmets. This is valuable equipment that will be used for valuable work! Here's Gavin White, Travis Vernon, Justin Rambone, and Joey Almonte showing their appreciation:

Currently, 17.4% of Scituate High School are deemed "chronically absent" which is determined as 18% of the school year. We currently rank 96th of all schools in RI for chronic absenteeism. Please come to school if you are not sick... we need you!!
