Principal's Message
Skyline K-8 Community,
Happy Friday! This week we started state testing for students in grades 4th -8th. A huge shout out to Melissa Dunn for creating the testing schedule and to all of our staff for being super flexible and accommodating to our students’ needs this week.
On Tuesday, a team from the Multi-Tiered Systems Support Department came and did our FIT Assessment. The Fidelity of Implementation Tool (FIT) is an evidence-based MTSS implementation tool. It is designed to measure growth over time as schools develop their MTSS through six domains. We were one of over 30 schools in the district participating and will receive professional development next year to help meet our school’s needs based on the results of the assessment. The domains are as followed:
- Administrative Leadership
- Strong & Engaged Site Leadership
- Strong Educator Support System
- Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
- Inclusive Academic Supports
- Inclusive Behavior Supports
- Integrated Educational Framework
- Fully Integrated Organizational Structure
- Strong & Positive School Culture
- Family & Community Engagement
- Trusting Family Partnerships
- Trusting Coaching Partnerships
- Inclusive Policy Structure & Practice
- Strong District/School Relationships
- District Policy Framework
The Fit Assessment process included interviews with parents, staff and me along with classroom observations. Thank you to our parents Clarissa Kearns, Sunshine Schmidt, Morgan Bors, Tony Faustin and Audra Kelvin for coming in and being part of the process.
Have a nice, relaxing weekend.

Counselor's Corner
Today, Skyline students and staff met in their family groups. We are preparing for the Move for the Arts “Joy of Movement” theme by preparing a group movement for our parade. Students received their fundraising forms in preparation for the big event. Please check backpacks for the forms and help your student make this our most successful fundraising year ever.
The Skyline Ridge Neighbors association helped Move for the Arts with an amazing donation. Let’s show our appreciation by volunteering for this Saturday, April 20th’s, Oregon SOLVE roadside clean up day. Volunteers will be cleaning up roadside garbage to keep our roads safe and clean. Volunteers will be meeting at the Brooks Hill Church, across from Skyline school, from 9 AM to noon. This is an excellent opportunity for Skyline students to earn community service hours and families to support our community.
Due to the extension of the school year, the Skyline Talent show will be held on the new last day of school, Wednesday, June 12th.
Have a wonderful week,
Amy Gervais

This month we are focusing on our Learner Profile of being REFLECTIVE staff and students. To be REFLECTIVE:
“We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development”
Our next IB assembly will be on May 3rd at 8:45 am. Please keep a look out for your REFLECTIVE students!

Testing
The first week of testing was very smooth. Thank you to all our teachers for their flexibility and patience through all the hiccups that came up. Next week our 3rd-grade students will begin their ELA test from 9:30 - 10:30 Monday through Friday. As this is not a timed test, students can take all the time that they need. If students do not finish, there will be finish up times in the later weeks. As we know testing can be stressful for some students, however, the staff works very hard to support the students with frequent breaks, and a comfortable testing environment. The overall day is structured to take into account the time students are testing. There are also many things families can do at home to help support their students. Please encourage a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

Site Council
It was brought up at the PTA meeting last night that information on Site Council would now be included in the PTA meetings. As I know not all families can attend the PTA meetings, I thought I would make announcements here when needed. Our next Site Council meeting was scheduled for May 8th. However, with school being closed we will be rescheduling for another date. I will let everyone know when that data has been set. We need to coordinate with Site Council Members first. If you have any questions on Site Council, what it is, who is on the committee and what the agenda items are please feel free to reach out to Ms. Aguirre with any questions. She is always happy to talk to anyone and answer any questions. The Site Council meeting minutes are also posted on our Skyline Website for anyone who would like to look at the past meetings.

Skyline Foundation
The auction was an amazing success, but we’re not done yet! It’s time to get those matching donations!
Take a look at your auction receipt. If you see a cash contribution or a paddle raise amount, you can get that money matched!
Here is a list of employers that we know match charitable donations:
Intel
Baird Foundation
Nike
Legit Script
Tektronix
Planar Systems
Daimler Pacific Corp
Wells Fargo
Kennedy Jenks Consultants
If your employer matches donations and is NOT on this list, please reach out to the Foundation (erena.friedrich@yahoo.com) and let us know.
Skyline parents who work for Intel or Nike please note that you have until June 14th to submit your receipts for the matching donation!
If possible, please have your employer send the matching donation to the Skyline PTA.
We hope you had fun at the auction. Thank you SO MUCH for giving generously!
Sincerely,
Your friendly neighborhood Foundation
Move for the Arts
Our annual Move for the Arts FUNdraiser and field day are right around the corner. FUNdraising forms will be coming home after April 19 and field day is May 17.
Also, we are trying to reduce waste and encourage children to reuse their Franz water bottles from last years MFA.
Please send them to school with your children if you still have them.
We are reaching out to families with business connections who would be able to help contribute. In particular, we are looking for support of a large number of small prizes for attaining fundraising levels. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution of in-kind items. If you are interested in business sponsorship, please let us know at fpstudioschool@gmail.com. We would be happy to discuss what would work for you.
Because of the generosity of Skyline families for our fundraising efforts, our annual Move for the Arts FUNdraiser, we are able to fund both our visual art program and field day event with this single effort. Community support from businesses provides fundraising prizes, volunteers for our event and services, such as photography and sponsorship. Your support is vitally important, and we are so grateful to you.
We would like to thank our amazing Art Liason, Shannon Garcia- Shinn, for sharing her talents and dedication to our Skyline students and staff. For the 2019-20 school year, we will be saying good-bye to Shannon as she moves on to spread her talents into working with adults and pursuing other avenues in art. If you are interested in the Art Liason position, please reach out.
Happiness is … Letting Someone Else Do the School Supply Shopping
PTA’s School Supply Fundraiser is here!
This year we have partnered with the Teacher Tailored supply kit program to offer pre-packaged, school supply kits filled with the exact supplies requested by your child’s teacher. Why fight the hassle of retail when our kits are a cost-effective and convenient way of purchasing your back-to-school supplies? An order form to should have come home with your child prior to April 12. The form includes instructions to order online at www.shopttkits.com with account #67223 or you can return the paper form to the office. All orders need to be received by April 29.
Please note that the school supply fundraiser was set up prior to the new grade configuration announcement. Chris Sugura was kind enough to create new paper order forms that reflect single grade classrooms in grades K-3 for the 2019-20 school year. However, we are unable to change the online ordering system without confusing the warehouse where the orders will be fulfilled. If you order supplies online for children entering second or third grades, you will need to choose “Skyline 2nd-3rd Grade.” The supply lists are the same for both second and third grades, so how you order will not affect the quality of supplies your child receives.
PTA Connection
Who had fun shopping for books, games, and videos at this week’s Used Book Sale? There were so many AMAZING finds and deals to be had! This much-beloved event would not have been possible without YOU! Skyline, you donated over 7,000 items to this year’s sale! THANK YOU!
A HUGE thank you to Amber Anderson for leading this year’s fundraiser. She stepped up to orchestrate the chaos and has done an absolutely stellar job. This is a labor of love, and Amber, we all thank you for putting in 8+ hours per day in order to make it all come together. And, thank you to Liz Ascher, Kelley Weigel, Cosette Posko, Abbey Poizer, Marianne Halt, Jet and Lola Griffith, Roz Campbell, Shannon Shinn, Nicole Fravel, Christina Yager, Jacki George, Linda Gustafson, and others for showing up with smiles on your faces to sort and organize 1,000’s of donations, and/or sell books to eager kids (and adults). You all fill my heart with such appreciation.
Thank you, too, to those who came to last night’s PTA meeting! We covered a diverse list of important issues. Thank you for participating and helping to make every child’s potential a reality at Skyline.
SAVE THE DATE! Next month’s PTA meeting is Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m. in the library. We’ll host a guest speaker from PPS, too, to speak about the new health curriculum. Please come with curiosity and questions! This is our LAST PTA meeting of the year. (Can it be?!) Join us!
Warmly,
Clarissa Kearns

Gym & Cafeteria
Family STEM Night is less than TWO weeks away! There will be 20+ hands-on activities in the gym thanks to an awesome group of Skyline parents and Intel volunteers. We’ll have activities for all ages and grades. Parents and guardians are asked to accompany their kids from activity to activity, experiencing and learning about science, technology, engineering, and math, together. And, don’t worry about feeding your kids beforehand! We’ll have a potluck dinner in the cafeteria throughout the evening.
If you signed up to bring something or help at the originally-scheduled event in February, please confirm that you’re still able to do the same on May 1. And, if you haven’t yet signed up to bring a food item to share, or to help before, during or after the event, you can do so, here:
