Shakin' Up Shakespeare
Pre-AP ILA Composes Shakespearean Rhymes
Our students have studied Shakespeare!
We analyzed one Shakespearean sonnet, and students wrote their own couplet in iambic pentameter.
Methinks that every student did enjoy, lessons about the Bard who did employ...rhyme scheme, meter, metaphor, personification.
We learned about Elizabethan times as well as one of Shakespeare's famous, but simplest, sonnets (#18). Students studied rhyme scheme, meter, and poetic devices, writing couplets using Elizabethan terms. They completed the assignment by illustrating with an illuminated letter!
Breaking News: Mrs. Rios' classes will take part in a "Shakin' It Up with Shakespeare Contest"
After students complete final copies of their couplets embellished with "illuminated letters," a contest will take place. Work by top finalists in periods 1, 4, and 6 will be judged by Stafford Middle School teachers and administrators. Winners will receive Chick-fil-A gift certificates along with selected novels. Who said that learning Shakespeare wasn't fun?
