Principal's Message
I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. It was wonderful seeing so many of our families at Back to School Night. We have an exciting week of work ahead!
Our amazing teachers work very hard to continue growing and strengthen their instructional skills. Our teachers work with Teachers College consultants five times a year to sharpen their skills in the areas of English Language Arts, particularly Readers & Writers Workshop. Next Wednesday, K-2nd grade teachers will embark on their first session of the year.
Safety is always at the forefront of our minds at Murwood. We will be hosting Volunteer Trainings for all parents looking to volunteer in classrooms, at school events and field trips. Please see the dates below.
Next week our students will begin their Soul Shoppe Workshops. These are grade-level workshops focused on building emotional self-awareness and self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, positive problem-solving, responsible decision-making and goal-setting.

Notes From The Office
The cold & flu season is just around the corner and the big question from parents is always "When should I keep my child home?"
Please refer to the following District guidelines of when to keep a sick child home.
FEVER
100.5 degrees or higher. Child must be fever free without benefit of fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
STOMACH ACHE
Two or more episodes of vomiting or diarrhea, or has had one in the past 24 hours and feels tired or ill.
SNEEZING OR RUNNY NOSE
Excessive sneezing or constant running nose especially with green or yellow mucus.
SORE THROAT
Tender, swollen glands, severe pain and a fever of 100.5 or higher.
COUGH
Frequent, persistent cough with phlegm/mucus or cough sounds like a bark or is accompanied by a sore throat or wheezing.
EARACHE
Constant or severe pain- this is a sign of otitis media (middle ear infection).
RASH
If the rash blisters, develops pus or is uncomfortable, possible signal for chicken pox or impetigo.
Children should not return to school until symptoms of illness have subsided and the child is able to participate fully in classroom learning and activities. A child should also remain home if on antibiotics for a full 24 hours after beginning medication.
If your child is going to be out due to illness, please call the office to notify us of the absence. If you have any questions about whether or not your child should stay home, please call the office and we will advise.
Thank you.
