Miss Cleasby's 4K News

News for the week of November 12th

Thanksgiving/Family Theme

Our 4K theme this week is Thanksgiving, Families, and Turkeys. We will be making a triangle turkey art project and we will be making a family portrait. We will be discussing our families and we will be making a class book describing what we are thankful for!

Turkey In Disguise

There will be optional family "homework" sent home this week. If you wish, you can decorate a paper turkey with your child. The idea is to disguise your turkey to help make it past Thanksgiving this year. We will display your child's disguised turkeys on a bulletin board in our class!

Jolly Phonics

Our Jolly Phonics letters of the week are "C" and "K". We are teaching the C and the K at the same time because they make the same sound. The action for the C and K letter sound is raising your hands together as if playing castanets and saying /ck/ /ck/ /ck/. Here are the words to the jolly phonics song to the tune of "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain":

We are clicking castanets,
We are clicking castanets,
We are clicking castanets,
clicking castanets...
...we are clicking castanets,

Kites are flying in the sky,
Kites are flying in the sky,
Kites are flying in the sky,
flying in the sky...
...kites are flying in the sky,

Handwriting Without Tears

We have been using our wood pieces the last few weeks to build the letters L,F,E,H,T,and I. These letters all use big line and little line wood pieces. Now we are beginning to complete worksheet pages that practice forming the capitals of these same letters. With straight forward and simple language we try to help the students form good habits like starting their letters at the top and holding their crayon with a tripod grasp. You will start to see some of these pages come home.
