Our Horn Section playing during the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration!
Happy Winter!
Dear Upper Elementary families,
Highlights from this week and a look ahead to next:
Cross country skiing was great fun!! The snow stopped for a few hours and we enjoyed a fabulous time at the Crawford State Park. Thanks to The Nature Connection for hosting us!
We celebrated and learned about Martin Luther King Jr. Thanks Tony and Fran for putting together a performance for our school to enjoy.
We wrapped up our choice research this week with written and visual works and presented what we learned to our classes. We had a wide variety of topics including poisonous frogs, coins, raspberries, Mary Queen of Scots, Costa Rica and snow. Our next research will be about U.S. history.
In math our 4th graders continued practicing decimals and fractions. 5th grade studied converting units, fractions, area and perimeter; 6th grade decimal operations, pemdas and the distributive property. 4th grade is continuing their study of the settlement of Colorado; 5th grade set up seed germination trials and 6th graders learned about the CO2 cycle.
The students are creating art that will be shown at the Blue Sage Art Show in Paonia, more info to come.
6th graders are busy selling chocolate bars to raise funds for their end of year field trip.
Our next dates for skiing/snowboarding are February 3 and 10. Please make sure that you register your student each week online by Tuesday at NOON for the Friday ski/snowboard day. They must be registered on time each week to participate!
