Newsletter Week 6 Term 1

Titahi Bay Intermediate School Thursday 10th March 2022

Principal's Korero

Welcome to Week 6 and what a challenging time it is for many of our students and whānau who are isolating and managing Covid in our community. I cannot thank our whānau enough for your complete support and understanding by continuing to communicate with us at school to keep us up to date on your situation. There is a bit of confusion with how isolation works so I have included a diagram created by Ora Toa which explains how it works for whānau who are isolating.

We have been extremely lucky with our teaching staff as their own whānau are not needing to isolate. We hope this continues so that we can continue running our learning programmes as much as possible. We have around 40 - 44% of students absent due to them isolating at home which means most classes are functioning at half the capacity. It is great for both teachers and students as there is definitely quality teaching happening.

Please continue to keep in touch with how your whānau are managing and let us know if you need any support.

Please keep safe.

Te Ara Kōrero/Whānau Conferences

We have our Term 1 Te Ara Kōrero/Whānau Conferences coming up. With the impact of Covid 19 and a number of whānau isolating we are going to run things a little different this time. We are going to offer bookings for on-line meetings as well as face to face (following safe guidelines).

Please note that School will finish at 1.50 p.m. on both of these days. If your child needs supervising until the normal finish time of 3.00 p.m. then please contact the school office.

If you are isolating then you will be able to have a meeting with your child's Home Room teacher. It is important that your child is in attendance for these conferences.

Wednesday 16th March 2022 - 2.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. - On-line meetings through Google Meets

Thursday 17th March 2022 - 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. - meeting face to face - in person

To make a booking please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the code: zwf9p

For Wednesday 16th March only - On-line Google Meets - once you have made your booking, your child's Home Room teacher will send a Google Meet invite closer to the day for you to join at your scheduled time. We are allowing 15 minutes for each conference so it is important to have parents/caregivers and students attend these meetings.

For Thursday 17th March - Face to Face - when waiting for your appointment, please maintain a safe distance from others around you. On entry to the classroom, please ensure that you wear a mask and sanitise as you enter the room. Teachers will be socially distanced from you to ensure that everyone is kept safe.

If you are unable to make either date then please make direct contact with your child's teacher to arrange another time.

We look forward to you engaging with teachers to work together to support our students learning journey.

Titahi Bay Intermediate Covid Response Plan 2022 Update

On our website, we have a banner notifying you what stage Titahi Bay Intermediate is operating at during this Covid oubreak.

Just a reminder that if you are isolating at home and need a Hard Copy Learning Pack, then please contact the school office and we will get one out to you as soon as we can. The work in this pack covers at least 2 weeks of learning. Under Stage 1 we will only deliver packs to those students who are isolating at home.

The Choice Board is available on our school website as well as via your child's google classroom which is a range of activities that they can choose from. These tasks do not need a digital device.

Isolation Flow Chart

Thanks to Ora Toa for putting together this flow chart to make it clearer how the isolation structure works as there are different interpretations.

Camp 2022

At the moment camp is still going ahead on our booked dates of 12th - 14th April 2022. However, as we get closer we will then make a decision in discussion with YMCA Camp Kaitoke in regards to numbers as Covid continues to be widespread. I have made another tentative booking for August just in case we do not have enough students well enough to participate or are self-isolating.

An intention form and Participation and Consent form will have made it home to you via your child. Please complete the forms and return them to the school office so that I can start to plan in more detail for camp.
