The Cougar Connection

Lafayette Elementary November 13, 2023

Principal's Message

Dear Lafayette Elementary Community,

We hope everyone had a wonderful Veterans Day weekend. Megan got a ‘staycation’ in Estes at the Stanley Hotel complete with a ghost tour! We saw more elk roaming the grounds than ghosts, but it was still a great getaway. Robin was in Durango at a hockey tournament. Wolf Creek pass is no joke to drive on!

Last week, we interviewed for the math tutor position that is funded by our Lafayette Cougar Parents. Thank you for all of your fundraising efforts--it really makes a difference for our kiddos. Whether you donated at Laps for Lafayette, via spirit wear, or at a restaurant night- it all goes right back to our little Cougars. As you can see, CT even stopped by the restaurant night for a delicious burrito!

We have a full school week focused on learning goals, community building and spreading kindness. Our No Place for Hate ambassadors met last week to develop upstander skills, address school climate goals and plan school wide activities to ensure our community is inclusive and welcoming!

Resolution of Respect guides our work and is aligned with our cougar code of being respectful, responsible, safe and kind.

No Place for Hate (NPFH) Resolution of Respect, I PROMISE TO. . .

  • Do my best to be KIND to everyone-even if they are not like me

  • RESPECT differences and not judge people

  • THINK before you speak or do something

  • Use the PEACE PROCESS when there is a problem to talk and try to work it out

  • Be an UPSTANDER and get help if others are being hurt or mistreated

  • HELP our school be a safe, happy and welcoming place for ALL

We are so grateful to be a part of the Lafayette Cougar community. We feel so fortunate to be able to work with terrific students, talented teachers and generous families. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving next week!

Go Cougars!

Sincerely,

Megan Weir, Principal and Robin Stone, Dean of Students
