Santan Quarterly Report
Q4 2019
Keep Calm & Storm On!
LETTER FROM THE "EDITOR" ... MRS. KOWALINSKI
Dear Santan Junior High Families,
As the year comes to a close, I would like to express my gratitude to all the Santan families for a wonderful year. It has been an honor and pleasure to work with your children and the staff here each day. The Santan community is a special group of families, staff members and children who truly make it a joy to come to work each and every day. I wish for you a safe and fun-loving summer.
May brought us many exciting events! This newsletter will showcase some of the exciting events that took place over our fourth quarter. Students celebrated their two years at Santan, they were involved in plays, sports, performances, and dances. Academics are paramount at Santan, but having fun at school is important, too!
On behalf of the staff and administration at SJHS, enjoy your summer! We will see our new 7th and new 8th graders on July 18th for Stormin’ Day to pick up your schedules and other important information.
Educationally yours,
Barbara J. Kowalinski, Principal

SPORTS - 4th QUARTER REVIEW
Santan Junior High - CONGRATULATIONS to all 4th quarter teams for a great season!
The Santan 7th grade girls' soccer team played in the EVC Championship game Monday, May 20th at Casteel HS. Entering the game, our Storm had a record of 10-2, having already lost to Sossoman MS and to Casteel. This time, to get to this title game, the Storm defeated a tough Sossoman team last Wednesday, May 15th on double OT and Penalty Kicks, 4-3!
Our girls lost to a very physically demanding Casteel team earlier in the year 0-3 and this time we gave everything only to lose the title game; this time 0-2, including a controversial penalty kick. We are all VERY proud of our girls who outscored our opponents 74-12! We wish everyone all the best in 8th grade and high school. Go Storm!!
Congratulations to all of our athletes and Coach Coombs for a season well played!

2019-2020 AVID
In looking to the next school year, please know we will be downsizing our AVID program to include just the 8th grade. The following year we will not be offering AVID at Santan Junior. Our two main feeder high schools (Basha and Perry), no longer have an AVID program to offer students. We will however continue to teach and support all of our students school wide using proven AVID teaching and Executive Function strategies in our content classes. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our AVID Administrator, Assistant Principal Mary Ann Rezzonico 480-883-4616 rezzonico.maryann@cusd80.com
