Learning about iLearn
Not to bring up the topic just as some of you are still finishing ISTEP, but DOE is hosting a series of webinars that you might find helpful as you prepare for the changes when Ilearn starts next year. Some sessions will be more general in nature; some specifically address disciplines such as Math, ELA, 6th grade science, Biology, and others. See the sessions and register here.
Meaningful Research Project for History, Language Arts
Teacher Dean Scheele used his deceased father's diary, letters and keepsakes from World War II to deepen lessons on the war for eighth-grade students at a Minnesota school. Students also developed their research skills by tracking down the family of a grieving mother who sent a letter to his father. This project could be used with other topics, but is especially important now, as the number of World War II veterans decreases daily.
