Circle of Excellence
Circle of Excellence
The State of South Carolina requires all students to take several assessments throughout their school career. This past year, our students participated in the South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards or SCPASS for Science in grades 4 and 6, the South Carolina College and Career Ready Assessment or SC READY in English Language Arts and Mathematics in grades 3-8, and the End of Course Assessment in Biology I, Algebra I, English II and US History in grades 8-11. On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the School Board Meeting, we recognized our students and teachers who have met the criteria for the Circle of Excellence Club.
To become eligible, students must earn an exemplary score on at least one out of two SCReady assessments, or an exemplary score on the Science SCPASS assessment. Additionally, students who earn a 100% scale score on any End of Course Assessment are eligible for this prestigious club. For teachers to become eligible, 80% of their class must score Met or Exemplary on a state assessment in their content area. We are honored to announce that 242 students and 11 teachers that have earned this distinction! This is an increase of over 100 students and 9 teachers from last year to this year. Please join us in congratulating our students and teachers for their excellent work! The intent of this awards ceremony was to reward those who have rewarded us in the classroom – both students and teachers – who achieve on a level of excellence matched by the values of scholarship, and who study with intensity, motivating themselves and others, and genuinely celebrate learning in all aspects to its fullest. You have demonstrated remarkable academic achievement and we salute you!
Making a Christmas Wish Come True
by- Sheila Cochran
Kendall Crosby is a wonderful student who sees the positive in everyone and has never met anyone who he does not like. He has a personality that brightens up a room especially when he has the time to check on the weather. There are several times when either his classmates or I would ask what the weather would be for tomorrow so we would know if we needed a sweater or not. It was so thrilling as Kendall’s teacher to see how the class had come together as a community. His classmates in the 4th block Marketing class were excited about making a Christmas wish come true. So, the journey to make that dream come true began.
I contacted the weather department of Live 5 and Chief Meteorologist Bill Walsh. After I told them of Kendall’s dream of one day being a weatherman and working for Live 5 I received a reply to my emails in a matter of two hours. Kendall’s story touched them all. I told them how Kendall loved Baseball caps and I asked if I purchased a cap would the weather department sign it and ship it to the school for a surprise. Bill Walsh said he would look for a hat and sign it. I was so excited. Then the second email can from the weather department from Mr. Dan Cates’ office which said they would like to offer Kendall a personal tour of Live 5 weather studio and they will provide some swag when he comes. I continued to correspond with Amanda Curry the Marketing Director of Live 5 and the “Invitation Certificate” was designed and sent.
I, as Kendall’s teacher am so proud of him and the hard work he does for my Marketing class. The truth is, I am proud to be the teacher of both my Marketing classes at Colleton County High School. I want to give thanks to all the whole class of the 4th block as they conspired with me to help keep this whole event a secret so that we could surprise him under the Christmas tree in the foyer at CCHS. Kendall was presented his Invitation to Live 5 and his classmates cheered him on. I believe he was in disbelief at first but after we returned to class he said, “that was a surprise”. His classmates are so happy for him and I believe all of the negative barriers that could ever be made up or thought of were broken in this one small show of kindness.
I want to thank Dr. Cave for taking time out of her day to attend and to personally congratulate Kendall on his Invitation certificate from Live 5. Also in attendance were Principal Cannon, and Dr. Sharon Baddick.

CCHS Full Sail University Day
Full Sail University's Community Outreach Representative, Ms. Majorie Pierre presented classroom visits which incorporates fun and interactive workshops tailored to introduce students both to Full Sail University and the creative industries we serve. Full Sail University (FSU) is a creative arts school which offers 3D Design, Matrix, New Technology, and so much more to prepare the students for the entertainment industry and more. This school is hands-on and the students are the creators. Ms. P provided the Game Design workshop for Ms Bonnie Brown and Mr David Gadson's classes which consists of Juniors and Seniors. The students had a great experience as they engaged in making up game scenarios in which they had to create a main character, game goal, game rules and a game challenge. Once they completed that, they had to present their created work to the class.
It was shared how 119 of the Full Sail University graduates were credited on 29 OSCAR nominated projects across 18 categories in the Academy Awards 2022. Forty six FSU students graduates credited on 60 grammy-nominated projects across 44 categories, 157 FSU graduates credited on 34 game award nominated projects across 20 categories. FSU's areas of study are: Music & Recording, Games, Art & Design, Film & Television, Technology, Media & Communications, Business, and Sports.
Full Sail University offers scholarships to those that plan to attend and it is with hopes that some of our 2023 graduates will apply and attend. For the application process, students are asked to see Ms. Footman.
Hand In Hand Community Outreach
