Message from Mr. Wilbanks
On Saturday, March 26, the Gwinnett County Board of Education held its first work session on the proposed FY2017 Budget. During the meeting, we officially announced that the proposed budget includes a 3% pay increase for all school district employees. The Board and I are pleased to be able to share this good news with our hardworking employees throughout the organization.
Although we see some improvement in the state and local economy this year, these remain challenging economic times. In order to leverage every dollar available to us, I proposed to the Board that the pay increase be handled differently than raises in past years. Therefore, the 3% raise will be distributed in two segments:
- First, every full-time, benefits-eligible active employee on May 20, 2016, will receive a 1% one-time pay adjustment in FY2016. This payment will be included in the June 2016 paycheck.
- Second, all employees will receive a 2% cost-of-living increase in FY2017, which begins on July 1, 2016.
In addition to this 3% increase, the budget includes funding for a longevity-step salary increase for all employees eligible for a step increase. This group includes 95% of current teachers. All told, the average salary increase for teachers will be 3.87%.
With the proposed salary improvements, the Board and I wish to reward our employees for the hard work you do, while also ensuring you have the resources you need and a climate conducive to teaching and learning.

CEO/Superintendent
