All About Energy
Physics 101
KE
KE in Physics stands for Kinetic Energy. Kinetic Energy is any object in motion. Running, kicking a ball, and driving a car are all forms of Kinetic Energy. In Physics, KE=1/2*m*v^2 where m=mass and v=velocity.
PE
PE in physics stands for Potential Energy. Potential Energy is different from Kinetic Energy because even though the object has energy, it's not moving. It simply has the potential to move. A rollercoaster that is stopped at the very top of a big hill has potential energy. So does food before you eat it - it has the potential to give your body energy. In physics
PE = m*g*h where m=mass, g=gravity, and h=height.
Conservation of Energy
Energy in a system may take on various forms (e.g. potential, kinetic). The law of conservation of energy states that energy may neither be created nor destroyed. Therefore the sum of all the energies in the system is a constant.
