DC Staff Update

14 June 2015

I'm grateful this week for...

What has to be one of the most enjoyable, and inclusive, staff parties we have had. Heaps of fun, some real surprises on the microphone, games, prizes and good food. Thanks to Gill, Mandy K, Debbie, Helen and Pat for putting this together ...an enormous task as you can well imagine. Thanks also to Suet Yi and Joe for acting as MCs for the evening.

Sports, Community Engagement and CCAs

All teaching staff are required to take 2 CCAs, or 2 Community Engagement Groups (or combination of both) or one Cobra Sports per year. In order to start planning for this, please click on this link to the Sports, Community Engagement and CCAs Form. This needs to be completed by next Friday 19 June. Any support staff who wish to run an activity or assist with a sports team are warmly invited to fill it out also. For any questions about Sports, contact Lawrence, CCAs contact Margaret and Community Engagement contact Peter.

Big breath, count to 10

It's that time of year when people are particularly tired and can say or do something without taking the time to think about it. Please don't be left at the end of the term having to manage issues that could get blown out of proportion, so if in doubt, take a breath, count to 10, give yourself some time to think, even ask a colleague for advice... The last two weeks of this year are crowded with many events and we should be all enjoying this time of celebrating all the great achievements this year.

Had to laugh

Lateness and absences

There have been significant numbers of students arriving at school late. Our policy says that all students (Y1-13) should be at school by 8.15am so they have time to get to their rooms and be ready to start school at 8.25am. A review of lateness records has revealed some students with over 30, 40 and some cases over 50 days late to school.

We have changed our policy so that next year parents will be emailed after 5 days of lateness, with further contacts after 10 (phone call) and 15 (face-to-face meeting). Lateness will also be recorded on each student's mid and end-of-year reports. Class teachers and LAs can help enormously by setting expectations on having every student in class by 8.25am.

Attendance will also be added to school reports with a similar system of contacting parents when concerns are noted.

2015-16 Calendar

Thank you to everyone who passed on suggestions regarding next year's Calendar. Some of them were able to be actioned while others not so. The link to the google doc is now closed and all the 2015-16 dates will be added to the iCal/google calendar. If using iCal, you will start to see them will be under DC Primary, DC Secondary, DC Staff or Discovery College, depending on which category they fit under. Events such a field trips will be added as the year progresses.
