Glows and Grows

Glows: Thank you to Karen Latora and our nurses for holding down the office this week as Sandi has been out. Thank you to Karen Gill for covering for me on a very long IEP. Much appreciated! Thank you to Catherine for working with our student leadership group this past week! Thank you to the Byland's for baking cupcakes for Mr. Leathers and the new baby!

In class:

1. I observed a first grade teacher doing a small group ELD lesson. There was nothing fancy about it. Simple, straightforward use of the BMA materials based in a foundation of positive relationships with students and strong routines. The students were successful!

2. I had a chance to observe a third grade classroom today. The small reading group was a bit more developed but what was cool was the students were used to the routine and you could tell this group of "developing readers" really felt comfortable and successful being able to access a small part of the lesson.

Grows/Question: Last week's question continued: How are you purposefully planning for academic conversations? What specific supports do you have in place for students during academic conversation? What area will you target for the next 30 days when it comes to high quality, in-depth student academic conversation? What gains did you make in this area this past week?

Attendance, Student and Staff/Reminder!

Please take a moment to fill out the survey. Only four classes have entered in for the survey.

The class with the best overall attendance percentage from October 21-November 14th will get to have some fun! I will take class votes on the following survey (one vote per class)! Also, if we dip below 15 absences for a any given day during the challenge, the whole school will receive a prize for the day.

Remember, I track school wide attendance here! One of the best things we can do to find success for our students is to celebrate their presence and to make sure we are the ones leading them each day! Thanks for your commitment.

3rd-5th Grade ELD/Small Group Professional Development

As I mentioned last spring , Lori Taylor will be providing personalized professional development for grades 3-5 over the course of the year. They are at Cordelia Hills. Subs have been reserved. Our first dates:

Grade 3: November 7th

Grade 4: November 13th

Grade 5: November 14th

Coaching Day: November 15th

Please reach out if you have questions!

MTSS Tier One Plan --**UPDATED**

MTSS Planning Docs are below:

Our Tier One Plan for behavior for October and NOVEMBER is here! Many thanks to those that remembered this and already hit me up for Good News Referrals for October. Please commit to sending one to the office this month!

November: Focus your efforts in class and with your grade level around setting SMART goals for increasing the quality and quantity of level 2 and level 3 academic conversations.

October is focused on recognizing students with Paw Prides and Good News Referrals. Both are available in the staff workroom. Remember, students put Paw Prides in the Paw Pride box on the stage. Good News Referrals come back to me in the office. Students can visit and hand them in and I will recognize them personally.
