Carman Paw Print

October 24, 2021

To our Carman Families and Students,

Please be aware that "Fall attire" can be worn on Friday, October 29th which is our Fall Party Day, but please do not send your child to school in their costume.

Also, per the Parkway Food Policy, students are not allowed to bring in any food or candy items to share. If the items are sent in we will, unfortunately, have to send them back home with the child, as they will not be distributed.

Thank you for your understanding -- we will have many fun Fall activities for the students on Fall Party Day!

With CT Pride,

Dr. Love

Dear Carman Families -

Please note that we will DISMISS EARLY on Friday, October 29th at 1:05 p.m. - we have a Parkway scheduled half-day. We ask that you adjust your schedules accordingly to have your child picked up from school at 1:05 p.m. if they do not ride a bus.

Flu Vaccinations will be made available here at Carman on Tuesday, October 26th for our students as well as our staff! Students whose parents want them to receive the vaccine will have it administered in the morning during school on the 26th. The necessary consent forms (two pages) as well as information about the vaccine are attached below; they were also emailed to parents in PDF form.

More information on insurance coverage, etc. is listed further down in this Paw Print under our Nurse's Notes.

Art To Remember - A Note from Ms. Sampo

Hello Carman Families!

Our school is participating in a creative fundraiser with Art to Remember that allows you to purchase keepsake products customized with your child's art. There are over 60 products and many are less than $15. These make great gifts and a percentage of every purchase goes right back to our school.

Click on the link below and enter the online order code shown on your child's order form or to search for your child's artwork. (Order forms should have been sent home this week)

Then, have fun shopping!

Ms. Sampo

Bingo for Books!

Bingo for Books is back and we are going virtual with our Bingo this year!

You should have received a flyer from your student (see the photo on the left) about the event. Please note at the bottom of the flyer is important information needed in order to coordinate the event: your student's name, their teacher's name, and the number of people playing.

RSVP's need to be turned in to Mrs. Manley by Monday, November 1st -- the Zoom link will be available prior to the start of the Bingo game on November 5th at 6:00 p.m.

Come be a part of our character recognition efforts!

We are introducing our Cougar Community Spotlight. Now, whenever you see a student (or staff member) demonstrating character outside of school, you can nominate them using this Google Form - linked here:

Nominees will be randomly selected and spotlighted in future Paw Prints and possibly other school communications. By submitting a photo (by choice, not required), you are granting permission for us to use the photo in school-related communications.

Thank you for your help in recognizing and spotlighting character in our students!

Food Shortages Right Before the Holidays Will Affect Hungry Parkway Students

Our Food Pantry became a reliable source of food for many Parkway families during the pandemic. We must now sustain this resource and ensure the shelves at the Food Pantry are stocked and families can still count on us. To that end, a Food Pantry Advisory has been established and you will see increased fundraising and awareness of this need in our community.

The Parkway Food Pantry continues to have a growing need to continue supporting our students and families. Between now and the upcoming holidays, we will support over 200 Parkway students and families with over 400 boxes of food. Each box feeds an entire family for four weeks.

Our country is now facing a national food shortage which will impact access to food. We are going into the holiday seasons and students will also have breaks from school where they don't have daily meals.

We need your help! Would you like to sponsor a family for the Thanksgiving and holiday season? A donation of any amount will help.

Donate with PayPal here:

or use our district online payment system to donate (click "donations" tab):

We cannot thank you enough for your support as we work to provide access to food and nutrition to Parkway students and their families! To learn more about the Food Pantry, click here:

Notes From Nurse Connie Connelly

Flu Season and Vaccines

Dear Carman Families:

Flu season is coming up quickly and the best way to prevent influenza is with the yearly flu vaccine. Parkway will be parenting with the Visiting Nurses Association again this year to provide flu shots to all students and families ages 3 and older on Tuesday, October 26th. Receiving your influenza vaccine at school is not required, but it is easy and convenient. If you're interested please see the information below, as well as the necessary 2-page forms to fill out in order to sign up for the flu vaccine, located at the top of this week's Paw Print.
