04/03/2020 Distance Learning Update
This has been a busy week of learning for both staff and students! We are fine-tuning our communication skills using Google Hangouts Meet and utilizing email and phone calls to stay connected with one another. On the whole, our technology seems to be working well and everyone is demonstrating adaptability within our circumstances. Since we cannot be together face-to-face during this time, it is extremely important that you are checking your email and responding in a timely fashion. Important updates regarding programming needs, duties, and other district information regarding distance learning and COVID-19 are being sent regularly through email.
Non-licensed Staff Work Log Reminder:
Non-licensed staff are expected to:
- Work with licensed staff in the classroom you are assigned to support distance learning. Including:
- Supporting content development
- Checking in with students using the comments section of Google Classroom
- Support the delivery and pick-up of materials.
- Complete training as assigned by your administrator.
- Provide child care as assigned.
- Track your activities daily in a log provided by your supervisor.
A log spreadsheet has been shared with all non-licensed staff. Please make a copy of this spreadsheet for your own personal drive and share a copy with your assigned teacher, Don, Shelli, and Richelle Gernes.
Here is a link to the log sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sn_oKie5bGbe1ehw2cK9J3Eb95j4xYqsk6EoNECQoCw/edit?usp=sharing
Staff should be reaching out to their assigned classroom teacher (through email, phone, google classroom, etc.) to determine how to best support their efforts during this distance learning process. This daily contact should be included on your log sheet.
To make your own copy of the log document:
1. Open the document
2. Click on "File"
3. Scroll down to "Make a Copy"
4. Click on "Folder" when the dialog box pops up
5. Click the back arrow at the top left-hand side of your screen until you see "My Drive" as an option to select.
6. Select "My Drive", then click "Ok" at the bottom of the dialog box.
7. Rename your log "[Your Name] Distance Learning Work Log"
Please have this log created and shared no later than Wednesday, April 8th. Once you have shared this document with us once, you do not need to re-share each week.
Expectations:
Interacting with students: Remember that even in a distance learning situation, you need to remain professional and follow the district expectations for staff. If you are using Google Hangouts Meet, double check your surroundings to make sure that anything that is visible to the student is school appropriate and maintains confidentiality. Also, if a non-licensed staff is checking in with a student using Google Hangouts Meet, please make sure the session is recorded.
Steps to record the session are linked here:

Interacting with parents and other adults in the home: Be professional and maintain confidentiality. For non-licensed staff, be extremely cautious about giving ideas and advice to parents or other adults, even if they ask. The best response is either to direct them to licensed staff or let them know you will pass their question along and the teacher will get back to them.
Driving: If you need to drive in order to complete a task, email Don to send you a copy of the letter from the superintendent that explains that you are an essential employee. You should either print it out and keep a copy in your car or save it to your cell phone. Your name will also be added to a list of essential employees that need to drive that is at the district office. Please make sure your 917 badge is in your car.
