Notes From the Office
CGSF Popcorn Days: We are gearing up for another successful fundraising year with Popcorn Fri-yays. Popcorn is $2.00, and we aim to have popcorn delivered to classrooms before 10:30 am on Friday. Last year popcorn days provided approximately $7 000 to our Fundraising Association. As our student population continues to grow, we know the support is needed more now than ever. We are working with our Hot Lunch ordering platform to hopefully have popcorn orders streamlined through that, for families who wish to do so. If you have any questions: please email Barb (cgsfundraising@gmail.com).
Hot Lunches: Ordering will be open from the 1st to the 20th of each month to order for the following month. Please note that there is no hot lunch ordering for ECDP or Kindergarten students. To open your 2023/24 hot lunch account (the system does not retain information from the previous year), follow the detailed instructions provided in the attached graphic (Digital Take Home Folder). When you log in, you may notice a new button to volunteer for hot lunch. Please consider volunteering to help sort and organize hot lunches from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. If you have any questions you can contact our hot lunch team at: cgshotlunch@outlook.com.
CG Gear: Our online store is back up and running for the year. Check out: https://christinagordon.entripyshops.com/ to order school clothing. There is a wide variety of styles, logos, and colours to choose from!
Grade 4 Vista Ridge Field Trip: As part of the Physical Education curriculum, students in Grs. 4-6 will be participating in a skiing or snowboarding day at Vista Ridge Ski Hill. Grade 4 students from our classroom will be participating on January 24th. Please see the attached permission form for information on student packages, lesson requirements, travel arrangements, and payment information (Digital Take Home Folder). Physical copies of the permission forms will go home in the Take Home Folders this week. Please return these forms as quickly as possible so that travel arrangements (ie. booking the correct number of busses) can be made. We are encouraging all families to do their best to finalize all payments through Parent Portal by Wednesday, December 20th. The school is unable to accept cash or cheques as payment for field trips. To pay, please visit Parent Portal and select the appropriate package for your child. Should you have any technical issues using Parent Portal, please contact the main office of the school. No student will be excluded from this trip due to an inability to make these payments. If your student or family is unable to make such a payment at this time, please do not hesitate to let me know. Alternative arrangements will be made by the school so that all students who wish to attend are able to do so.
Fundraising Association Casino: Our CG Fundraising Association is currently looking for volunteers for their upcoming casino from January 13-14th. This is the single BIGGEST contributer to funds which go directly to the students and the school. Please check out the Sign Up Genius schedule: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080B44AEAB2CABFC1-45569984-casino?fbclid=IwAR3qqKmqQ7PgN-lYDJjE2DRWVmuQany5Jjo0hwHsBVbIl52_5PPd_hu06ZY#/.
Discovery Centre Field Trip: We will be taking a field trip to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre on Wednesday, January 17th. Students will be attending the “Mighty Machines” program as well as getting the opportunity to explore the Exhibition Gallery. The purpose of this trip is to allow students to discover how important simple machines are in their lives, through hands-on activities and building with K’Nex. This is a great opportunity for our Grade 3 students to further explore concepts in Energy, Computer Science, and the Scientific Method as part of their new program of study. This is a great opportunity for our Grade 4 students to further explore concepts in Wheels and Levers as well as Building Devices and Vehicles that Move. This trip meets many of our Science outcomes. We will be taking a bus from Christina Gordon Public School to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre. We will leave the school at approximately 9:00 am on January 17th and return at approximately 1:30 pm. Please fill in the attached form (Digital Take Home Folder) giving your child permission to attend this trip.
Family Literacy Spirit Week: Family Literacy Day is coming up (January 27th). To celebrate as a school, we will be having a Family Literacy Spirit Week. As with other Spirit Week's, each day will be a different theme/activity that students and staff can participate in. The themes/activities are as follows:
- Monday: Blanket Fort Day (Donation Item - Apple Sauce/Fruit Cups)
- Tuesday: Read to Your Stuffy Day (Donation Item - NutriGrain or Granola Bars)
- Wednesday: Story Character Day (Donation Item - Fruit to Go Bars)
- Thursday: Movie in the Gym (Donation Item - Mini Wheats, or Cheerios)
All donations will go towards the Christina Gordon Breakfast Program. As always, students are encouraged but not required to participate. Please do what feels best for your student and your family.
