DMS has talent!!

DMS held it's first talent show in several years, sponsored by the Fleurettes on Thursday! It was a great time, featuring dancers, singers, iPod karaoke, and a special performance by Mrs. Trawick! Winners from the Visual Arts show were also recognized. What a great way to get ready for our upcoming break!

Do’s and Don’ts on Spring Break

DON’T break yo’self, fool! That goes for your physical body of course, but right now we’re talking about breaking your bank account.

DON’T Put yourself or your friends in compromising positions via pictures. It’s easy to forget that a hilarious post about or picture of your friend could cause them a lot of trouble.

DON’T Leave ANY of your belongings with a friend. They could totally forget about it so always keep your phone, wallet, and other accesssories by your side.

DO Something different!

DO Be safe!

DO Use sunblock! I don’t care what color you are or how gorgeous you want your tan to be, UVA and UVB rays give everyone cancer. Sorry to be a party pooper — this is a survival guide, after all, and long-term damage counts!

DO Enjoy the moment — and preferably not through any sort of lens. This is a perfect opportunity to relax, have fun and be spontaneous. There is only one Spring Break 2016,, and you get to spend it on a gorgeous beach surrounded by friends and potential friends-to-be. This is the time to soak it all in as it comes. So enjoy yourself.

Restaurant of the Week

This week's restaurant is called Thyme by the Bay. It's in Fairhope. It has many great selections from Filet Mignon to coconut cake. They serve lunch, breakfast, and dinner. It's a little pricey, but worth every penny. Stop by this weekend!

Daphne Middle School particpates in the Boxtops for Education program, which means we collect Boxtop coupons! Two times in the school year, we will send in our boxtops, and the company sends us a check for the Library! Boxtops can be turned in to the Library, or to the school office. Bring as many as you can!

Concert of the week:

On April 19, James Taylor is coming to Pensacola Bay Center. The concert starts at 8 PM. Tickets costs $65-85. You can find tickets on ticketmaster and vividseats.

Recipe of the week

Oma's Rhubarb Cake

  • 1 1/4 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 cups diced rhubarb
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • Gold Medal Flour All-Purpose

  • ground cinnamon, for dusting
  • Add all ingredients to list


  • Prep

    30 minutes
  • Cook

    45 minutes
  • Ready In

    1 hour 15 minutes

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together 1 1/4 cups sugar, baking soda, salt and 2 cups flour. Stir in the eggs and sour cream until smooth, then fold in the rhubarb. Pour into the prepared dish and spread evenly. In a smaller bowl, stir together the remaining 1 cup sugar and butter until smooth. Stir in 1/4 cup flour until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle the mixture on top of the cake then dust lightly with cinnamon.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 45 minutes.

What's trending?

Hold up. Pretty sure we have been waiting for this day since we were old enough to say "Filet-O-Fish." Brace yourselves, McDonald fans. Your favorite chain is working on a hardcore rewards program for all you loyal Big Mac lovers. It looks like the company has high hopes for the program, meaning you should too. Forbes notes, Mike Andres, President of McDonald's USA said, "We're working on a customer-designed loyalty program that we think will be as good as there is out there in the marketplace." Um, already sold. The article also notes the program should be rolling out either later this year or at the start of 2017. The program looks like it might work on a point system, with customers points expiring after a certain time. That way you'll never slack off on your trips to the drive-through. Pure brilliance on their part if you ask us. We didn't really need another reason to go to McDonald's (as they had us at all-day hash browns) but this program definitely doesn't hurt.

Soccer news for the week

This week was a great week for the boy's soccer team. They had a tournament this week! On Monday, they won the tournament with a great win, but sadly they lost on Tuesday by one point in overtime but they tried their best!
