School Highlights
MOCK TRIAL
The two Souhegan teams competed in an invitational mock trial tournament this past weekend. There were twelve teams competing and the competition was very evenly matched. It was one of the closest competitions in a while!
The Souhegan Gold Team came in fifth just missing getting a trophy.
The Black Team made of almost all freshmen had a good showing in 9th place.
Eva Stiles from the Gold Team was named as an outstanding witness as was Charles Beaza of the Black Team.
JAZZ NIGHT #1
Congratulations to the Jazz Band on a phenomenal concert last week! Souhegan was joined by Bedford and Keene High Schools in a night of Jazz combos and bands with solo improvs, section solis, standards and popular charts.
CAREER & TRAINING EXPOSITION
On Friday, December 8th, Student Services hosted a Career and Training Exposition. The purpose of this event was to raise awareness and exposure of various post-secondary options, both educational and vocational, a variety of careers, programs and services available after high school. The event was a fair/expo style in the gym, so that students were able to speak with representatives and gather information about each organization. We had over 30 organizations attend.
Each grade interacted with the event slightly differently. For our 9th and 10th grade students, this event was a culmination of career exploration lessons that counselors did in the classroom with students the two weeks leading up to the event. The week before the event, counselors met with 11th grade advisories to build upon career exploration from 10th grade through the advisory Post-Graduation Plan. Counselors had conversations with seniors who are still a little unsure about what their future plans are and how they could benefit from chatting with Career Fair attendees about opportunities out there for them. These seniors were invited to attend during their lunch or advisory. Please feel free to ask your child about the career exploration that they did during the past two weeks.
WINTER EXHIBITION OF LEARNING
The Winter Exhibition of Learning was on Wednesday and featured an art exhibition by the AP/Advanced Art class and a fabulous concert by the band, choir, a cappella, and a combined finale. The video production class premiered a documentary showcasing how this event came to be. It was a great way to exhibit all of the great things happening in the visual and performing arts department!
This video was a collaboration of work done by video production students in an effort to show the behind-the-scenes process of putting together an art exhibition and concert performance. Video production students Ella C., Lucie H., and Lydia H. filmed clips of their peers who were working on art and practicing for the concert. Ella also went into the art room and interviewed and filmed the art students so their voices could be heard about their art process and feelings about being an art student at Souhegan.
SABER SPOTLIGHT
Click here to view slides from the latest Saber Spotlight that was held on Monday, December 11.
Last week, students in the Global Citizenship Senior Seminar met with NHPR’s Senior Reporter, Todd Bookman, as part of their recent Pollution Inquiry Project. Bookman joined the class to explore how to develop audio stories that capture the variety of voices and stakeholders involved in complex pollution issues. Students in the course are investigating the question: “How is pollution impacting the environment and human communities?” by identifying a specific pollutant and researching its causes, impacts and possible solutions. They will then develop a podcast or a video on the story of the pollutant. Bookman gave students a way to create a narrative arc, and to see how those diverse voices fit into it. This is another exciting example of connecting students with experts in their fields to make learning more authentic and relevant.

Senior Year Notes
SENIOR PROJECT
With our next Senior Project Checkpoint coming soon after vacation it is imperative that seniors are showing their mentor a draft before they leave for vacation. Seniors should be meeting with their mentor once a week in order to get their support they need. Although research is not due until March, seniors should have between 4-6 pages of notes that come from 4-6 sources at this point in their project. Seniors should also have a confirmed outside expert with whom they are communicating. Please check in with your senior to see where they are at with their work.

Special Education Teacher
How long have you been with Souhegan?
2019
What do you love about your job?
Working with students and helping them achieve positive outcomes.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to travel. I especially like to visit tropical destinations. Currently, my favorite archipelago is Turks and Caicos. It has been a while since I've traveled so I am up for going almost anywhere! I enjoy reading, cooking, working out, spending time with my family and friends, gardening, tending to my hobby chicken farm, crafting: soap making, crocheting, knitting and growing orchids. I also enjoy mini excursions around New England.
If you were given one wish what would it be?
My wish is always for Health, Happiness and Wisdom. It is from a story that my Dad used to tell me all the time when I was little.
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?
"Just listen to your gut and on the way down to your gut, check in with your heart. Between those two things, they'll let you know what's what." - Ted Lasso
