What to support our Climb 2 Feed Kids team?
We will have10 Franklin staff members that will be participating in the 2020 CLIMB 2 FEED KIDS event in January at Bresnan Area. CLIMB 2 FEED KIDS is a team-based arena climb to benefit the BackPack Food Program of Greater Mankato. 50 teams of up to 10 members each will fundraise $1000 to participate. Teams are required to complete 10 full laps of the entire arena going up and down every staircase for an approximate total of 768 steps per lap.
The BackPack Food Program provides packs of child-friendly food to elementary students to sustain them on the weekends and school breaks. 40% of the student population in Blue Earth County receives free and reduced lunch and breakfast. The BackPack Food Programs helps keep these students fueled on the weekends. It serves 15 elementary schools and 2 middle schools in the area.

What does AVID mean at Franklin?
Have a student who likes to perform?
Franklin will again be hosting a talent show in February. Last year we had great performances that included solo and group acts dancing, magic, singing, playing piano, gymnastics, telling jokes, and more. Check out the video above.
Acts should be between 30 seconds and 4 minutes in length, school appropriate, and entertaining.
We are only able to take 10-15 acts, so the auditions are very competitive and we are not able to have all interested students participate. Students who were selected for last year's talent show had spent many hours practicing to ensure that their audition was successful. If your student is planning to participate in the auditions, please help them to find the time to practice in advance of their audition.
All students will attend the talent show and only the parents of the performers will be invited to attend. Our auditorium will not hold more people than this, so we will video record the performance for others to see.
Dates
Information sent home with students the week of December 2.
Sign up for auditions the week of December 9-13
Auditions January 13-14
Talent show February 7
How do families learn about weather cancellations?
To check information about school being delayed, dismissed early or cancelled, you can:
Call: The District Information Line at 386-4777. HINT: If you save it to your phone your kids can check it and not bother you at 6 am.
Watch: WCCO (Ch 4), KSTP (Ch 5), FOX (Ch 9), KARE (Ch 11), KEYC (Ch 12)
Listen: KMSU (89.7 FM), KXLP (94.1 FM), KDOG (96.7 FM), KEEZ (99.1 FM), KXAC (100.5 FM), KRRW (101.5), KYSM (103.5 FM), WCCO (830 AM), KTOE (1420 AM)
PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE TO SEE IF SCHOOL IS CANCELLED OR RELEASING EARLY. Our school phone lines tie up quickly when an early closing is announced so be sure you have your Snow Emergency Form current as we will follow the directions you have given us on that sheet.
District text messages with reminders and announcements. You can receive text messages to remind you about things such as two-hour late starts and inform you of weather related changes. Subscribe using this link.
Please remember that ACES, our after school childcare program, does not operate when we close due to inclement weather.
* When the weather causes school to start two hours late, breakfast will not be served.
When do students have indoor recess/mornings?
To determine whether or not children are outside, we use the chart below as a guideline. When the temperature gets close to the second blue field, we strongly consider keeping students indoors. Anything in the 30, 10, or 5 minute sections are automatically indoors.
It is important that you send your child to school dressed to be outside for 20 minutes of recess.
Must haves
- Hats
- Gloves
- Winter jacket
- Boots
- Snow pants
- Scarf
- Face mask
- Other items your child may need to stay warm
When every child at Franklin has a hat, a pair of gloves, a winter coat and a pair of boots, that's 6 items per child times 465 children for a total of 2,790 pieces of clothing. Chances are high that things will get dropped, misplaced or mixed up with other students' clothing. Labeling your child's clothing helps greatly.
What's new on Peachjar?
- Winter Youth Enrichment

What's the Scholastic Book Fair, Potluck and Clothing Sales recap?
Thanks to everyone who brought in potluck items during conferences. The staff always appreciate the warm meal on long conference days.
The Scholastic Book Fair was a success. Thank you to all the volunteers and families that attended. We sold over $5,000 in books and 55% of our sales come back to Franklin as Scholastic Dollars. Forty different teachers received 50 Scholastic Dollars this month to spend on books and classroom supplies. Plus, we spent 1699 Scholastic Dollars last month to buy all our Falcons a book for meeting the Walk-A-Thon goal. Your support at book fairs enables PTO to provide books to so many at Franklin. Thank you.
ICYMI: Pete the Cat was our special guest during Book Fair. We hope your kids enjoyed interacting with him before and after school when he was out and about. They sure had a lot of questions for him.
Discounted Franklin clothing is still available to purchase, if you missed it during conferences. Please contact Amy Thomas at amyleefr@gmail.com if you are interested in purchasing any clothing items before the holidays.
How do the Trash into Cash programs work?
Franklin PTO is able to submit Box Tops for Education and Hy-Vee receipts for cash to support the school. Thanks to everyone who clipped and scanned Box Tops! Franklin will be receiving $276.20 next month.
If you shop at Hy-Vee or purchase items with Box Tops, please keep clipping and scanning Box Tops and submitting your Hy-Vee receipts to Franklin for the remainder of the school year.
What's the December 10 theme day?
Mrs. Soine's class brainstormed, discussed and voted. Let's face it kids love to wear pajamas to school. The December 10 theme day is Pajama Day!
