Personalized Learning Days: January 14th is the First One!

Shelby County Public Schools Board of Education voted to amend the calendar for the Spring of 2022 and added Personalized Learning Days (PLDs). These occur one Friday a month. The dates are January 14th, February 4th, March 25th, April 22nd, and May 6th. You can find an amended school calendar HERE.

Here are some details for parents and students regarding Personalized Learning Days.

  • Start and End Time for students in attendance.

    • Elementary 7:30 - 11:30

    • Middle and High 8:30 - 12:30

  • Students will be invited by their teachers for the following purposes:

    • Remediation

    • Standard Recovery

    • AP/ACT Practice Exams

    • Defenses of Learning Development

    • Enrichment Activities

    • Opportunities to Learn

  • If you have questions, please contact your child’s school or teacher.

  • Breakfast and Lunch will be served to those students attending.

  • Transportation will be provided. During the morning route, bus drivers will be running regular routes but may arrive earlier than normal at the usual stops.

  • If your child is invited to attend a Personalized Learning Day, please RSVP so plans can be made for instruction, transportation, and meals.

  • This is a NON-INSTRUCTIONAL DAY. Students will not be participating in at-home learning. This is NOT an NTI Day.

Strategic Leadership Planning: Parent Involvement Needed

SCPS is working on our Strategic Leadership Planning for 2022 - 2025. If you are interested in participating, our next Town Hall is Tuesday, February 1st. If you want to participate, RSVP to cyndi.skellie@shelby.kyschools.us! We hope you'll join in planning for the future of public education in Shelby County!

Snow Day & NTI Day Info

The following message was sent via email to SCPS Parents on Tuesday 1/4/21. If you did not receive our message, please make sure your contact information is correct at your child's school.

It’s January and snow is in the forecast! In December, we reminded you to think about a “Plan B” in case schools need to close due to inclement weather. Students, parents, and staff will be notified through our Blackboard Messenger system via email, phone call, and text, then it will be posted to our Facebook, Twitter, and our website. Finally, we notify the news media, and they will post on television and radio stations. Our goal is to notify everyone as soon as possible.

These are the possibilities available for SCPS students and families:

A Non-Traditional Instruction Day (NTI Day) - students will work online at home. Teachers will share times and procedures for NTI. The school day times will closely reflect the normal school day. Elementary 8:00 - 2:30; Middle and High is 8:30 - 3:00. These are the hours teachers will be available and attendance will be taken.

Snow Day (Schools Closed) - schools will be closed and instruction may or may not be made up at a later date.

One or Two-Hour Delay - students will begin class one or two hours after their usual time. Buses will run on a one or two hour delay and doors will open one or two hours after the usual reporting time when staff is available for supervision of students. Do not drop students off prior to the scheduled school start time.

Early dismissal - a Blackboard phone, text, and email message will be sent at least an hour before the dismissal if there is inclement weather.

Extracurricular activities will be reviewed on an individual basis by the school principal, with central office input.

It is imperative that you have the correct contact information on file with your schools so that you can receive messaging. We know that altering our usual schedules creates difficulties for everyone. The key is to be prepared. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make decisions to keep all of our Shelby County Public School students and staff safe.
