Mill Creek Magic Messages

News and Updates from Mr. Ortman and Mr. Murtha 11/4/2022

Mill Creek Celebrates Halloween!

We got our "spooky" on at Mill Creek late last week and this past Monday with some events to celebrate Halloween!

Friday, many of our 6th Graders joined us for our annual 6th Grade Halloween Howl, which included a DJ/dancing, frightening good treats, amazing costumes, and a haunted house! Our 6th Graders enjoyed a good scare as they made their way through the haunted house, full of some guest teacher/staff ghouls, and they showed off dance skills that looked even better in costume! It was a great night! Many thanks to your Home and School Volunteers for creating and hosting such a wonderfully scary and fun event!

On Monday, we held our annual whole-school Halloween celebrations, which kicked off with our Halloween Parade at 9:30 a.m. Thank you to all the parents/family who were able to make it out to cheer on our many costumed students and staff on as they paraded through the crowds. Thereafter, each classroom held a celebration, which included a variety of events, such as Halloween Bingo, Halloween Trivia, and... of course...enjoying some Halloween treats! One 4th Grade classroom even constructed their own classroom haunted house! Tremendous thanks here, as well, to all the homeroom parents and volunteers who helped organize and run each classroom celebration!

Birds Take Flight at Mill Creek!

Our beloved Philadelphia Eagles football team is having a pretty stellar season to date, but they are not the only birds in town! This past Wednesday, classes had the opportunity to learn about raptors (the birds... not the dinosaurs... although they are related!) as Mill Creek welcomed a Birds of Prey assembly. Our students learned about these birds' habits, environment, and more. It was a fascinating and enjoyable presentation!

Go Phils!

While we hope it becomes the norm, a World Series appearance doesn't come along too often, so Ms. Mudry and some of her specialist friends at Mill Creek had the great idea of holding a Phillies Pep Rally! We did just that on the afternoon of Thursday, November 3. Our Fightin' Phils Pep Rally involved singing some fight songs (only the good kind... we even snuck an E-A-G-L-E-S chant in there!), a few hype videos, a Phillies trivia activity, and more! We connected the Rally to the importance of one of our Creekers' Code tenets - teamwork - as, without it, the Phillies would not have made it this far... and it can take us far at Mill Creek, too!

Go Phils! We've got high hopes!

Creekers' Code Winners!

Congratulations to our K-6th grade students being recognized this week for upholding our Creekers' Code tenets!

  • Cooperation
  • Respect
  • Excellence
  • Effort
  • Kindness
  • Empathy
  • Responsibility
  • Support

Winners will be invited to the main office to select a prize. These recognized students are:

Instructional Spotlight - Ms. Simon, 4th Grade

Among the many things that stand out about Ms. Simon's instruction are not focused on reading, writing, or math but rather on teaching students to build and utilize positive character traits, which happen to be right in line with our Creekers' Code tenets! One of the unique ways Ms. Simon is teaching these traits is by pairing positive traits with classroom stuffed animals. When a student displays a specific trait, they earn the opportunity to display that animal, alongside them. Ms. Simon's students were proud to show off character traits "buddies," such as "Kindness Cactus," "Helpful Hootie," "Sharing Sheep," and more!

Kudos to Ms. Simon, for utilizing this unique, motivating, and fun way of teaching and promoting important character traits! A "Creative Cat" for you, Ms. Simon!

Student Laptop Expectations

Central Bucks Technology & Innovation Department is asking us to stress the importance of laptop case use for students (grades 3-6) when they transport their laptops and when laptops are not in use for extended periods of time. At school, we will be stressing the importance and reminding students of the need to put their laptop in its case during these times (e.g. when taking a laptop from their classroom to specials class). We ask that you stress these practices at home, too. Thank you for your support!

Additionally, if your child loses or misplaces their laptop case, please reach out to the Mill Creek Main Office.

District Laptop and iPad Care

Central Bucks Innovation and Technology Department has asked us to communicate the following regarding District-issued laptop and iPad care...

  • Please encourage your children to use their laptop/iPad bags for carrying devices in school, at home, and to and from each location.
  • Please encourage your children to report issues/problems with their devices, so they can be properly address and fixed as soon as possible.
  • The laptop/iPad payment fee covers accidental damage. Intentional damage may result in a family being billed for the damage.

Schools will be communicating these messages in school as well.

We appreciate your support!

Inclement Weather Procedures for Car Riders - Dismissal

We ask that, on inclement weather days, car riders post a placard with the student(s) family last name, so we can call in names for quicker dismissal. We will do our best to send a message out earlier in the day if we believe inclement weather dismissal is necessary for car riders. Feel free to use the placard template below if you find it helpful.
