Message From Principal Engdall
Greetings Shaw Montessori,
We welcomed a couple of new faces to our teaching staff this week!
Ms. Bryce Miguel will be supporting the work of the children in Ms. Vanessa Brink’s classroom. While Bryce and her 2 children are new to our community this year, we have loved her positive and creative impact. Bryce began the school year as one of our highly sought after Outdoor Environment Teachers where she worked with our primary children. While we were sad to lose an ODE teacher, we are thrilled to have gained such incredible classroom support for Ms. Vanessa and all of the children. Welcome Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Bryce, we are so glad you are here to support our children!
Wishing you the very best,
Principal Engdall

Message From Nurse Rose
Covid positive cases this week: 12
Family members: 8
Most of the 12 cases reported were from the beginning of the week. No cases have been reported Thursday or Friday so we are getting back to a lower infection rate. I want to say a special thank you to all the parents who are getting their children tested and reporting back to the nurse! We are able to get very accurate numbers because of this.
Pooled Testing: this week we tested 19 pools/171 students and staff and no students tested positive with individual Rapid Antigen Testing. The weekly program continues. You can use this link to sign your student up if you are interested: http://testcenter.concentricbyginkgo.com//minor-consent

Garden Update
Greetings!
We continued with our worm dispersal this week. The students have been loving this curriculum block. Some children even overcame their worm phobias. It’s important to remember that worms are some of the most harmless animals on the planet. They need our love and support…except when they’re being fed to the chickens. This is called DUALITY. Edify your children at home.
We have allowed the chickens to graze during primary pickup. This has been a big deal for the littles. They love feeding and petting the chickens; however, it does not make pickup any easier for the primary teachers. Let’s remind our primary students to listen for their names when being called to the gate. I will stay in correspondence with the primary teachers about the chickens during pickup. If it convolutes things too much, then we will put them back in their coop.
As for garden news that doesn’t involve chickens, the 7th and 8th grade garden cohort hosted another market table this week. Business was slow this time. We will discontinue the market tables for a few months as we will be replanting in February. Look out for the return of the market tables in April and May.
Our tree planting has been placed on hold until February/March. Please be wary of the holes on campus. We don’t want any accidents.
We can always use coffee grounds and can donations. Please make sure the coffee grounds have been brewed. You can pick up used grounds at Starbucks for free. NO MORE SINGLE BREW PLASTIC CUPS PLEASE! We also prefer that your cans are uncrushed (the small kiddos love this task), however, we will accept crushed cans as well. You can drop them off at the table outside of the front office entrance.
We will take your eggshells as well! Please don’t rinse them. The worms love the yolk!
We still need your Home Depot donations. Even $25.00 is a huge contribution. Here’s the link to Home Depot gift cards: https://www.homedepot.com/c/Gift_Cards
Here’s my email: james.obrien-moench@phxschools.org
Thanks to the Kerwins for their Home Depot contribution. You all rock!

Shaw PTA
Next PTA Meeting / Wednesday, February 16th
Thanks to all who came out to support Tasty Tuesday last week at Autumn Court. Not only did you not have to cook dinner that night, you also helped the PTA raise $139.22. Win/Win!
Each school year families are asked to volunteer 10 hours. Attending Site/Council PTA meetings count toward your volunteer hours, so please be sure to sign up online before meetings.
Wondering how many hours you have so far this year?
Here are the directions for pulling your report
