Fort Edward Elementary
October 2018 Newsletter
October Happenings:
Our first month of school flew right by, and our students and staff are back in the routine of the school year. In October, there are many events and programs coming up, outlined in this newsletter.
Our students enjoyed Spirit Week last week, capped off by a rousing Pep Rally on Friday 10/5/18. I think it's wonderful that even our young elementary students can participate in a traditionally high school event! I hope everyone enjoyed the day off for Columbus Day on Monday 10/8, and students will get another day off from school on Friday 10/19/18 for a Superintendent's Conference Day. Staff members will be hard at work that day, expanding their knowledge and working in Professional Learning Communities.
Please read below for more information on October events. As always, please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jones

Reminders:
At morning arrival time, Case Street from Broadway to Burgoyne will be one way only during the hours of 7:30-8:10 AM and 2:15-2:50 PM daily, Monday through Friday. The right lane, next to the sidewalk, is for buses only. Please drive slowly and carefully during this time, being alert for children at all times. If you are dropping off a student, please pull up and let your student out of the car on the passenger side only. Drivers must remain in the car.
After school care:
The YMCA is conducting an online survey to determine if there is enough interest to open an after school child care program at Fort Edward Elementary. If you haven't already done so, please go to fortedward.org, scroll down to the lower left side of the page under "Announcements" and take this survey. If there is enough interest, we can get this after school child care program going within a few months.
Toys at school:
Please remind students to keep toys at home. Many kids have been coming to school with fidget spinners, stress balls, Pokemon cards, and other small trinkets. These become a distraction from learning, and lead to squabbles when other kids want to play with the toys, and so forth. There is no reason to bring toys to school, as our students are busy learning all day tong. Please have kids leave these items at home.
