Incredible Academic Growth at Klinger Middle School

Klinger Middle School students are showing incredible academic growth, measured by the i-Ready Diagnostic. The i-Ready representatives shared that they had never seen such growth as a district before and highlighted that our middle schools are truly doing phenomenally! Our median (middle) student growth toward their yearly goal is 100% for math and 125% for reading! To put these in perspective, i-Ready recommends looking for 50% growth at the midyear point; Klinger students have more than doubled that! See the charts below to show how students have grown from the beginning of the year until now.

Attendance

Please remember to email: klattendance@centennialsd.org with any attendance questions or requests. This includes absences for any reason, early dismissals, and vacation requests. The only way to excuse your child’s absences is to email klattendance@centennialsd.org.

Meetings, Visitors, Dropping off items

We are doing as much virtually as we possibly can and significantly limiting people entering our building in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for everyone. Many meetings will continue to take place virtually. Please also limit dropping off items for students during the day. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello Klinger Families!

In an effort to keep our paperwork up to the state mandated standard we need your help!

Here are the following guidelines by grade:

Grade 6- We need a report of a physical exam for your child. Oftentimes this is sent home in Grade 5 so you have one on hand for summer exams. If you are unsure if you sent one in feel free to call or email me directly.

Grade 7- We need a report of a dental exam for your child. If your child is in sixth grade now it does "count" for Grade 7. We also need proof of a tetanus booster and at least one meningitis vaccine. I have reached out to families this school year who still need to provide this information.

Grade 8- No mandates! This is typically the year we follow up to be sure we send a completed chart to the high school.

Thank you so much for your cooperation in helping us to gather this important health information for your student.

National Poison Prevention week

National Poison Prevention week is March 19-25! We encourage you and your families to stay safe! Here’s some tips to prevent poisonings in your home:

  • Practice safe storage habits - keep medicines in their original container, use child proof caps, and keep hazardous materials out of reach from children.
  • Read all labels and directions. Some chemicals should not be used together.
  • Check the ingredients of medications - some over-the-counter medicines have multiple ingredients, read the instructions carefully before administering!
  • Be prepared for an emergency. The Poison Control Helpline is a great number to have at your fingertips! Call 1-800-222-1222 to reach the helpline. You can even text POISON to 797979 to save the number in your phone!

If your child has tested positive for Covid-19, please note the start date of symptoms. Positive students should remain home for 5 days from symptom onset and then may return to school and wear a mask days 6-10.

A parent/guardian should notify the attendance line that their student will be absent, and their planned return date.

Family Trips Scheduled During the School Year

Family Trips Scheduled During the School Year

Although the scheduling of family trips during the instructional year is not encouraged, the Centennial School Board recognizes that students may benefit educationally by accompanying their parent(s)/guardian(s) on trips. Principals are permitted to approve up to five (5) days for students. Any trip beyond five (5) days will need the approval of the Superintendent.

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) who are requesting approval for a family trip need to complete and submit the attached form to their building principal at least three (3) days before the trip.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your building principal.

Sincerely,

Canvas Guide for Parents

Please click on the below link which will take you to a step by step guide that has been made for parents to help you with Canvas.

E-Mailing Attendance Notes

In response to parent suggestions, last year the district began accepting absence notes electronically. While you may certainly continue to submit written notes, parents are encouraged to submit absence notes via e-mail.

Below you will find some details.

Please know you will still receive automated phone calls

on the days your child is absent from school.

Please use this email: KLAttendance@centennialsd.org

to report your child absent from Klinger.

E-Mailing Attendance Notes

  • Parents with children in Klinger may e-mail attendance notifications/notes to the following address: KLAttendance@centennialsd.org
  • E-mail notifications are encouraged on the morning of the absence day. However, e-mailed absence notes may be sent on the day following the absence.

  • When sending an absence notification please include the following information:

Child's Name

Child's Grade

Date(s) of Absence

Reason for Absence

Contact Phone # for Parent/Guardian

Other Pertinent Information

  • While you may still continue to call the school on the day of absence, a follow-up e-mail or a written note is still required for the absence to be excused.

Fall Technology Information and Updates

Please visit the District website, Departments--Technology & Online Learning--1:1 Initiative Resource Center, for updates related to 2021 Fall device information (e.g.- return and pick up), technology device agreements, care and responsibility agreements, student/family tech support videos, the Community Help Desk Support Portal, and other technology-related items.

Chromebook Chargers

Please make sure students charge their Chromebooks when they get to 15%. Please do not wait until they get down to zero.

If they need a replacement charger, they can buy them from our tech department or go on Amazon.

Chromebook tip: Charge the Chromebook before your student goes to bed. A full battery will last your student all day.

Chromebook Guidelines

The following are general guidelines to care for your HP Chromebook.

Charging (This is the MOST Important!)

The Chromebook’s display is a sensitive component. If you drop your Chromebook,

slam the lid shut, and/or expose it to excessive pressure or weight, it may crack. Make sure

you don't have anything between the screen and keyboard as you close the case.

Don't place items on top of your Chromebook as the weight can cause damage to the

screen. Always keep magnetic devices away from your Chromebook.

Always close the Chromebook lid prior to moving it.
