Middle of Year Assessments
If your child is a remote learner, teachers will be reaching out to schedule times to meet with your student to complete these assessments. Please help your child do their very best independent work, by ensuring that they are in a quiet place and prepared to meet with his/her teacher. It is important that students are the only ones interacting with the teacher during these assessments so teacher can have a clear understanding of what students can do independently.

JANUARY MENU
NURSE'S NEWS
Counselor's Corner
Hello LVES Families and Happy New Year! January is a great month for students to learn about the importance of goal-setting and having a growth mindset. Helping a child to have a growth mindset will help them to imagine accomplishing their goals, and to keep trying even when something is hard. A lot of how our children pick up on a growth mindset comes from watching and listening to their parents and teachers. Here are some examples of phrases we can teach a child to use in order to replace a fixed mindset with a growth mindset:
Instead of saying, “I’m not good at this” or “This is too confusing,”say “What am I missing?” Instead of “This is too hard,” say “This is going to take more time and effort to learn.” Instead of “I’m just not good at math,” say “I’m going to train my brain to learn math.” Instead of “I give up,” say “What are some other strategies I can try?”
When we put value on their process, or what they have tried, we will foster more motivation to be successful.
“If parents want to give their children a gift, the best they can do is to teach their children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning. That way, their children don’t have to be slaves of praise. They will have a lifelong way to build and repair their own confidence.” ~Carol S. Dweck
~Carol S. Dweck
