Claires Court Bulletin

SIXTH FORM

FROM THE HEADS OF SIXTH FORM

Dear Parents,

Year 12 students return to us on Monday to commence lessons for their A2 studies. This will be an important few weeks for them as teachers will be working hard to lay down a firm beginning for Year 13. With the increased content and rigour of A2 subjects it is no longer possible to take a relaxed attitude at the end of Year 12 and hope to catch up on work missed. Students have also been made aware of our expectation that they will continue with lessons in all their AS subjects until after the results have been published.

HIGHER EDUCATION EVENING

A reminder to all Year 12 parents and students that the presentations about continuing education after Sixth Form will be this Tuesday evening, 14 June 2016. There will be a presentation at 6 pm in the main hall on the Senior Girls site about the real alternatives to going to university, followed by a presentation at 7 pm about the university application process. Refreshments will be served. Please note that you may come to one, or both presentations.

EXAMINATION START TIMES

Please note that there have been minor changes to the times that AS and A2 examinations begin at Senior Boys Sports hall. Morning exams will begin at 9.00 am and students should arrive by 8.30 am to be registered and seated. Afternoon exams will begin at 1.45 pm, with an arrival time of 1.15 pm please. The minibus from the College Ave site will still run at 1.00 pm to take students down. Students who travel to school by coach should not panic if their bus is late arriving as they will still be given the full allotted time allowed.

Coach Services from September 2016

Does your child currently use the coach? If so please make sure you complete the form emailed to you this week with your requirements for next term as soon as possible.

NATIONAL SCHOOL'S ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS

As predicted in our last bulletin our quad team did indeed bring home the gold medal! Our congratulations to Finlay Gronmark, Ollie Costley, Jonathan Cameron and Alex Richardson on their fantastic race, and to coaches Tom Jost and Chris Clark for getting them to this peak of performance. You can read the full news article here.

In addition our eights team won the D final, and the Junior 14 quad won the B final. As Mr Wilding said 'extraordinary outcomes for Claires Court Senior Boys and Sixth Form'.

FOOD AWARENESS WEEK

A variety of activities are taking place next week highlighting different foods, activities and healthy eating across the school. Keep an eye on our news and social media pages!

SIXTH FORM SUMMER BALL

The Sixth Form Summer Ball this year will be on Thursday 30 June, from 7:30 to 11:30pm at Lillibrooke Manor, Ockwells Road, Cox Green, Maidenhead SL6 3LP.

This year the event will also include a two-course meal. Exact timings and menu details have not yet been finalised but it promises to be a very exciting evening.

At the start of next week, all students in years 12 and 13 will receive an email directing them to a simple Google Form to be completed. ALL students must complete this form by Monday 20 June at the latest. We need to know exact numbers for settling the final bill and we also need the chosen menu options. Please complete even if you are not going, so you can be crossed off the list. The form is very simple and should only take a minute to complete.

If any students are unsure if they have paid or want clarification on how much they owe, please speak to Mr Crawley. Please make any cheques payable to ‘Claires Court Sixth Form Social Club’.

Summer Fete on Saturday 25 June

This year the theme of our fete is 'The Great Outdoors', a theme inspired by the allotment and bushcraft projects the PTA have recently supported. If you, or anyone you know, would like to take a stall at this year’s event please contact me at emmarobertson@hotmail.co.uk. We are also looking for a number of raffle prizes. If you are able to contribute something please contact me at the same address.

If you pay online then please remember to send in your prize draw entry to the school office and it also assists us with how many tickets you require.
