Message from Jonathan Brice, Superintendent of Schools
Dear BWRSD community,
Thank you for your continued support as we work to reopen our schools. At today’s School Committee meeting we discussed our reopening plan for reopening schools. The following schools will open for in person teaching and learning on September 14, 2020.
Guiteras Elementary
Rockwell Elementary
Hugh Cole Elementary
Kickemuit Middle School
The following schools will open in a modified manner
Colt Andrews to open in full distance model for the week of Sept 14. In person return week Sept 21. Grab and Go Breakfast and lunch will be provided at the school each day between 8-9:30 a.m.
MHHS to open in a limited in-person model with students attending in person one day per week due to inability to ensure 6 feet of space between each student in classes.
Please email me if you have any questions.
Sincerely Yours,
Jonathan Brice, Ed.D.

1. Update on Reopening of Schools
Due to a number of factors impacting our Reopening Plan, it is necessary that we make
adjustments to the Reopening Plans for Colt Andrews and Mt. Hope High School.
Colt Andrews School has been closed this week for in depth cleaning and sanitization
and will need additional time to prepare for students. All Colt Andrews students will begin
the school year with distance learning on September 14th and change to in person on
September 21st. Families will receive additional information tomorrow.
Mt. Hope High School due to the social distance requirements of maintaining six feet of space between students we are unable to implement the hybrid schedule. Families will receive additional information tomorrow.
2. Information from our School Nurses
BWRSD is so fortunate to have outstanding nurses in each of our schools. Over the summer they attended numerous trainings and stayed on top of the latest recommendations on COVID-19 prevention and school reopening from the R.I. Department of Health and the R.I. Department of Education.
They have created the following presentation of information for families/guardians: 5 Things School Nurses Want Parents to Know. We highly recommend you view this and share information with your children, especially the outstanding video on mask wearing.
3. Kindergarten Orientation Presentation
Over the past several weeks, our district leaders have joined elementary school principals, kindergarten teachers, and school support staff in hosting virtual Kindergarten Orientation meetings for each school. Here is a copy of the presentation. We are thrilled to welcome our new K students and families into our BWRSD community and support them throughout their K-12 journey!
4. Bus Route Information
We are working with First Student to finalize the bus routes based on the transportation requests we have received. This year, due to the need for assigned seating and health and safety protocols, the bus routes will not be published in the local papers. Instead, parents and/or guardians will be contacted with their child’s bus number, the bus stop location and the pick up and drop off times.
If you have any questions regarding transportation, please contact Tina Fogell at tina.fogell@bwrsd.org.
5. Dates for Upcoming Flu Clinics
The district will have two flu clinics during the month of October. Additional information will be sent out to families.
Wednesday, October 14th, 4:00-7:00PM at Mt. Hope High School
Thursday, October 29th, 4:00-7:00PM at Kickemuit Middle School
