About the Band and Orchestra
While focusing on musical excellence, student achievement, and accountability, Fall Creek Intermediate Band and Orchestra provide a fun and engaging environment for kids to learn more about music. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!!!
Opportunities in band and orchestra may include: instrument family specific instruction, after school private lessons, and concert performances.
We are very proud of the Fall Creek band and orchestra members and the many parents who have helped Fall Creek maintain such a strong music program.
The social aspect of band is also very important. We take a large group of students and teach them to work towards the same common goal. As rewards we offer evenings at Ben and Ari’s!!!!
Why Play in Band/Orchestra?
You will learn to read music and develop a skill you can enjoy the rest of your life.
You will play several styles of music including classical, jazz, rock, pop, and blues.
You will be with friends. The FCI Band and Orchestra program has approximately 200 kids involved. Join with a friend and have twice the fun!!!!!!
You will participate in concerts throughout the school year.
BEN and ARI’S!!!!!!!!!
It is FUN and if you are really good, you could get a college music scholarship down the road. J
We would love to have you join our bands next year! Please email Mr. Tschiniak (Orchestra), Mr. Spidel (band) or Ms. Yoder (band) if you have questions about joining.

THE FCI BAND and ORCHESTRA wants you to play an instrument next year!
Who can play in band/orchestra?
Any student who will be attending Fall Creek Intermediate School as a sixth grader may participate. A good attitude, a willingness to work hard, and a strong desire to succeed will enable you to do well!!!
What instrument choices do I have?
The following instruments are played at the beginning level in sixth grade band.
▪ Flute ▪ Oboe ▪ Bassoon ▪ Clarinet ▪ Saxophone ▪ French Horn ▪ Trumpet ▪ Trombone ▪ Baritone ▪ Tuba ▪ Percussion
Orchestra – Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass
Please keep an open mind when choosing an instrument. You may be well suited for your second or third choice!
When do we meet?
Students enrolled will have band or orchestra as part of their daily schedule. Students who are interested in advancing more quickly are encouraged to take private lessons, but not required.
Can I play in band/orchestra and be in other activities?
Yes. Our students are some of the most active students in the school. You may participate in sports, cheerleading, and academic teams. No school functions conflict with the band/orchestra schedule.
How do I sign up?
Permission slips and interest forms for an instrument fitting will be sent home during the month of April. Forms must be signed by a parent/guardian and turned in to the FCI office by Friday, April 29, 2016.
Directors will visit general music classes in April to demonstrate all of the instrument choices and talk to students.
Students turned in a permission form will participate in an instrument fitting with a qualified instructor during the regular school day in early May.
Parents will receive a confirmation letter of their child’s selected instrument.
Parents need to attend the information meeting at FCI on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 7:00pm.
All parents must secure an instrument by the first day of the 2016-17 school year.

6th Grade Creating Positive Relationships Class
The Creating Positive Relationships (CPR) Program will be taught to the 6th graders at our school the week of May 16, 2016. This program focuses on teaching our children a whole-person health curriculum on the advantages of postponing sexual involvement until marriage. Basic skills in good decision-making and goal setting are taught, in addition to the possible consequences of sexual activity.
The Creating Positive Relationships organization knows parents are busy and hope this new format will allow you to join them in the comfort and convenience of your own home. They also trust that you will find them to be a resource as you work to develop a healthy relationship with your pre-teen. This webinar will equip you with ideas, skills, and direction for opening up communication with your child.
There are also pre-recorded webinars online if you are unable to make the live webinar. However, they will not show the video due to copyright laws. If parents are interested in viewing the video they can call the Creating Positive Relationships office at 317-846-0386 to schedule a viewing time.

Immunization Requirements
Fifth Grade Parent/Guardian:
The Indiana State Department of Health requires additional immunizations for students in 6th grade. These requirements will apply to your current 5th grade student for the next school year. Even though your student is up to date for this school year, two additional vaccines are necessary for entry into 6th grade. Your child will be eligible for the immunizations when they are eleven years of age.
Completing these immunizations during the school year is your best option as physician’s offices and health departments are extremely busy during the summer months. The state required 6th grade immunizations are as follows:
· One meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine
· One Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) booster
The state requires the school to have documentation that every student entering 6th grade has received the state required vaccines prior to the start of school. After your child receives the required 6th grade vaccines, please send a copy of the updated immunization record to Fall Creek Intermediate.
Updated immunization records can be emailed, faxed, mailed, or hand delivered to Fall Creek Intermediate, Attention Jamie Weber/School Nurse. Please contact Jamie Weber/School Nurse at jweber@hse.k12.in.us with any questions or concerns.
