SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY 2021

School boards in Ontario are required to conduct school climate surveys of students, school staff and families at least once every two years as one way to gather data that supports creating a positive school climate. School climate is defined as “the learning environment and relationships found within a school and school community.”

Some families and students may be familiar with the Tell Them From Me or Our Schools Survey from previous years. Those surveys restricted the board’s ability to write our own questions. This year we are using Qualtrics software, the same tool we used for the Student Census. This year's questions are designed to dive deeper into findings from recent board-wide student surveys, specifically the recent Student Census and the Mental Health and Substance Use Survey.

This year, the anonymous survey will ask questions related to equity and inclusive education, engagement in learning, and bullying and harassment at your student’s school. Students in Grades 7 to 12 will be asked an extended set of questions about graduation from high school, mental health and substance use. All questions are voluntary and students can skip those they do not want to answer.

Because the survey is anonymous, data cannot be tracked back to individual students. This information will be used by schools to build safer spaces in which everyone is respected and feels that they belong.

Students will be invited to complete the School Climate Survey, which is designed to take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete, online during class time between November 22 and 26, 2021. The survey is available in other formats upon request.

Staff and families will also be invited to complete a School Climate Survey in 2022.

Families are invited to review the survey questions in advance. If families require the questions in a different language, please visit the survey platform and select your desired language from the top right menu.

Schools may share more specific information around the survey over the coming days. If you have any questions, please contact your school directly.

Looking for Host Families for International Students

The Limestone District School Board hosts more than 120 international students each year from countries such as Brazil, Italy, China, Germany, Czech Republic, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, Turkey, Nigeria, Vietnam, and others. Many life-long friendships have developed out of Limestone's international student homestay program. Students stay from as little as 4 months to as much as 2 years. Hosting an international student is a highly rewarding experience and all students are FULLY VACCINATED.Host families provide international students with the support that parents normally provide their own children:

- A nurturing family environment while students study in Kingston.
- A private bedroom, equipped with a bed, desk, and appropriate storage space.
- Three nutritious meals per day.

Host families are compensated with a monthly stipend of $850/month (this amount will increase for September 2022 and again in September 2023) . This tax-free stipend is paid to homestay families directly by the Limestone District School Board.
