November Update
Day of the Dead November 1, 2013
Please sign up on the sign up sheet on the door
- Please bring a photo of a departed loved one no larger than 4x4 (great grandparents, great aunt, etc.). Even if your child did not personally meet the departed it is a good time to remember your ancestors. We will be making photo frames as a class art project. Please bring photos by Oct. 28th and hand them to their teacher.
- Children should each bring a piece of fruit for the altar on Oct. 29th or 30th for the deceased to enjoy.
- Each classroom please either contribute a class donation of $30, so we can purchase the flowers in bulk at the DTLA flower mart. Or, contribute four bunches of marigold flowers on Oct. 28th. Please put any contributions in the envelope on the door.
- For the Community Potluck on November 1- bring a departed loved one’s favorite dish or a dish reflecting your cultural heritage. Please label your dish on an index card with the name of the dish, it’s origin and any possible allergens, dairy, wheat, etc. Please do not bring any dishes with nuts. Thank you. Let us know if you plan to bring a dish on the sign-up outside your classroom. Thank you.
Day of the Dead
Emiliano's mom, Elizabeth, teaches our kids the importance of the Day of the Dead and why we set up altars.
Map Time
The kids went around the school making a map of their environment.
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday to Emiliano and Jose!
Cleaning Schedule
Ms. Rose has posted a sign up sheet on the classroom door. Please help disinfect
our class, on Monday or Wednesday. This is a quick and easy way to get your volunteer hours. We'd appreciate two people each time to wipe down surfaces and vacuum.
Thank you, to everyone who has already signed up to clean.
Our class is still in need of it's own vacuum. Please consider donating any spare vacuum you may have.
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY
We would like to begin collecting $10 a month per family (any amount is welcome) for our classroom treasury. All funds will be held in a lock box in Ms. Kerr's office. This money will be used for class needs, holiday and birthday gifts for teachers, parent coffee meet ups, etc. Please deliver these funds to Ms. Rose each month.
Let's put our extra change to good use! Send your loose change to school. Let the kids deposit it in our change jar. We can let the kids choose how we put this money to use.
Play Date December 6th 3:30-5:30
Mark your calendars, for our first class play date! Join us on December 6th, 3:30-5:30 at Veterans Memorial park (Overland & Culver).
Parent Coffee November 7th, 8:30-9:00
Our first coffee was so much fun we thought we do it again! Share ideas and wishes with your teachers and fellow parents.
Please join us at the tables for coffee and a sweet. Let Ms. Rose know if you would like to pick up the coffee or bake a treat to share.
Volunteer Hours
Don't forget to log your hours in the office. Our school requires each family to contribute 40 hours per year. There are many jobs that can be completed during, and after school hours. 100% participation helps our school win grants!
