Keeping the Faith and Keeping Connected

AUGUST 23, 2018

Volume 3, Issue 3

"On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness."

Psalm 145:5-7

Character WOW: Gentleness vs. Harshness

“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” (Philippians 4:5)

Early Christians were known by their gentleness towards others. Paul reminded believers of Jesus’ gentleness when he wrote, "By the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you" (2 Corinthians 10:1). Jesus said of himself, "I am gentle and humble in heart" (Matthew 11:29)

Like meekness, gentleness is not weakness; it is strength under control. In John 8, we witness the gentleness of Jesus as he refused to condemn the woman caught in sin. Unlike the Pharisees who were quick to condemn and throw stones; Jesus chose gentleness and healing.

“Ask you walk with Christ today, ask the Lord to grow the fruit of gentleness in you.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

My Declaration: “As a child of God, I pledge to live with gentleness towards others in my words and deeds.”

Bible story: Casting the First Stone (John 8:1-11)

Quote: “I choose gentleness... Nothing is won by force. I choose to be gentle. If I raise my voice may it be only in praise. If I clench my fist, may it be only in prayer. If I make a demand, may it be only of myself.” ~ Max Lucado
