Upcoming Gala
Grab your pom-poms, jerseys and checkered overalls and join us for this year's gala, themed around fall Saturdays in the South: the 2018 College GameDay Gala!
Cheer the night away with our favorite referee emcee, David Karnes. Be the next MVP - this fun-filled night of games like quarterback toss and more will make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the silent auction filled with unique gift basket creations to all the passion and fanfare that the live auction brings, this is a tailgate your company or family won't want to miss!
We are currently asking for auction donations, so if you know someone that would like to donate an item or help sponsor the event, please email development: development@silverdaleba.org.

Open House
Dear Silverdale Families,
Tuesday, November 6th is our Open House for prospective families. We will be advertising on the radio and in print but we all know that “word of mouth” advertising is paramount to any endeavor. Will you help us in promoting our Open House?
The Open House details are:
November 6th
6:30-8 pm
For prospective families
All our faculty and staff will be on hand to answer any questions. There will be refreshments. We appreciate your help and as an added bonus, if you refer someone to the Open House and if when they register they place your name on the “referred by” section, your elementary child can have a dress down day the following week.
Thank you again for partnering with us. We are blessed to have you in our Silverdale community.
Paid Dress Down Day
Veterans Day Program
Make plans to join us for our Veterans Day 2018 program, Monday, November 12th starting at 1:00pm in the Silverdale Baptist Church sanctuary.
The theme of this year's event is Because You Served, We Stand, and this year's keynote speaker is Lieutenant Colonel Warren L. Benjamin, United States Air Force (Retired). Lt. Col. Warren “Fang” Benjamin flew high-performance front-line combat fighter and supersonic trainer aircraft his entire career, logging over 4,000 flight hours in the McDonald Douglas F-4 Phantom II, the Northrop T-38 Talon, and the Boeing F-15 Eagle. He deployed multiple times during his career to overseas locations including Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. He is a combat veteran of Operation Southern Watch, where he flew complex air defense missions over Southern Iraq and Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was the deputy base commander of Baghdad International Airport. Lt. Col. Warren Benjamin retired from the United States Air Force in 2013 after 24 years of distinguished service.
If you (as a veteran) or your veteran would like to attend this service as our distinguished guest of honor, please fill out the form at the link below so that we have a record.
For any questions regarding this event, please contact Jeri Rizzo at jrizzo@silverdaleba.org or by phone at 423-892-2319 ext. 2221.

Honors Reading Update
Attention: Parent and Students
Honors Reading Updates
Below you will find a link to an updated Honors Reading List. If you prefer to use the previous list this year, that is fine. There may be a book on the old list that is not on the new list. It is fine to use either list or a combination of the two for the 2018-19 school year. We will phase out the old and use only the new in the 2019-20 school year. Notice that we ask that one selection be used as a family read aloud. Love of reading comes from home and we don’t want you to miss out on the joy of reading together as a family. You might even want to download a selection through “Audible” and listen in the car.
Our Honors Reading Program is a vital part of an SBA education and a Charlotte Mason education. The selections are deemed to be what Charlotte Mason called “Living Books." Living books are well written, containing literary language to make a direct appeal to the mind, to stir the imagination, and hold the child’s interest. While children sometimes love to read books that are considered “twaddle” with no real value, we must remember that children must grow up on the best. They need to be exposed to worthy thoughts well put and inspiring tales well told. Children brought up on great books do better than those educated on few books and many lectures. Daniel Defoe, Louisa May Alcott, Robert Louis Stevenson, C.S. Lewis, and the list goes on, should become good friends to our children. “Literature, books, education, and life all go hand in hand. The best literature is the human heart of education.”
Join Us
Join us every Tuesday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in Room 114 of the Student Ministry Building across the creek for a time of prayer led by Mrs. Kelli Preast and Mrs. Angela Tumlin, two of our SBA parents. If you are unable to stay for the entire hour, you are more than welcome to drop by anytime between 2:00pm and 3:00pm.
We are excited about this opportunity and would love to have you join us to pray for our Academy, faculty and staff, students and parents.
