4. Monday Mile (7th June)
A total of 37 miles completed this week with 21 pupils managing the full mile! Well done everyone.
5. It's Carnival Time...
You might have heard whisperings that on Friday we began to plan a carnival….
This half term, the whole school will be coming together to create an African inspired carnival parade and enterprise market on Friday the 16th of July. After the strangest of years, we want to celebrate our brilliant school by coming together to bring some noise and colour to the streets of Bardwell. You are all invited!
On carnival day, the school will parade through the village and return to our Daisy Meadow for an afternoon of games, activities and performances. You are warmly invited to join us and bring a picnic.
Every pupil will be involved in the carnival. We would like them to create a carnival costume, at home, so that they can take part in the celebration. The costumes will not need to include a mask, as pupils will be making these in school, as a part of our design and technology learning. Costumes should be bright and colourful and as simple or elaborate as you would like.
We are also challenging pupils to bring in something wheeled (e.g a bike, trolley, scooter, skateboard or something of their own making) that has been decorated in a carnival-style. This is an additional activity that pupils can choose to take part in. There will however be prizes!
In school, all pupils will take part in carnival-themed lessons to design and create masks; learn French (linked to carnivals in West Africa); create dances, perform music and create entertainment for carnival day by running enterprise stalls. We want to find out who our future business leaders are!
After such a tricky year, we hope to give the children a term where they experience a full and enriching curriculum with the creative arts being at the forefront. There will of course still be plenty of Maths and English!
We are looking forward to seeing you all at this summer celebration. With your help, we will be able to create some long-awaited colour, laughter and togetherness for us all.
As always, please talk to the staff if you have any questions, ideas or suggestions about the day.
6. Thank you PTA!
The PTA raised a massive sum of £462 from the Cars on the Green raffle - thank you to all who helped (Tracey, Laura, Kerrie, Emma, Sarah, Robyn, Nicola) and to those who bought tickets. Congratulations to Constance’s family who won one of the prizes.
Thank you also to the PTA for keeping us cool and hydrated during Sports Day, during which £33 was raised.
The PTA will be re-starting Freeze Pop Fridays next week, Friday 18th June.
7. Class, Whole School and Leavers’ photos
These photographs were taken on Tuesday. Please note that Tempest Photography has offered us contactless payment which means we will send out access codes to each class/ group once they have edited the photos; please lookout for an email. You can then order online by their cutoff date for free delivery into school, which we will then send home with the oldest sibling in your family. If you order later than their cutoff date, there will be a £5 postage charge for delivery to your home.
Natasha, the Tempest Photographer, was absolutely delighted to be doing a whole school photo as it was one of the only ones she has done this year because so many of her other schools are still operating in bubbles!
The Bury Free Press photographer, Mecha, was in on Friday to take the Y6 leavers’ photo and this will be published in a pull-out supplement on 16th July. We have yet to hear when the EADT will publish theirs.
8. Chorister Experience Afternoon, Saturday 26 June, 2pm-6.15pm - an invitation from St Edmundsbury Cathedral
We would like to invite all your pupils to a FREE Chorister Experience Afternoon at St Edmundsbury Cathedral on Saturday 26 June, 2 pm-6.15 pm. Children will have the opportunity to:
Experience and explore the Cathedral and its amazing history
Discover the famous LEGO model of the Cathedral and even make their own LEGO models
Sing at a workshop led by our professional team
Play outdoor games with the Cathedral’s choristers, who attend many local schools
Sing at a special service with the choristers
Receive a certificate and goodie bag at the end.
Please note that:
No prior singing experience is required
Parents are warmly encouraged to attend: refreshments will be provided and there will be a chance for them to learn about the life of a chorister from the staff team
Places must be booked in advance through dom@stedscathedral.org
9. Would you like to be on TV?
A TV production company called The Chancer Collective is looking to cast a number of fun, outgoing, movie-loving kids of primary school age (and their families) to star in a brand new children’s TV show for a major broadcaster.
