Reflections From the Principal
We are in for another busy week at FC! Officer Austin will be at the School Safety conference in Indianapolis tomorrow and Tuesday of this week and Officer Livengood will be at school in his place. Mr. Webb will be absent on Tuesday, as his sister is having a baby! He will be an uncle again! Lastly, I will be out on Friday of this week, as I will be at Indiana State University for "mock" interviews with their student teachers graduating in December.
Thank you for all you do for our students!
Have a great week!
Ashley
Great Things I Saw This Week
Our teachers do whatever it takes for students to have the opportunity to be successful; even if it means working in the cafeteria over lunch! Thank you, Mr. Smith!
- Give students various questions (about 5-10) to ponder and write about on a particular topic. (This can be done as a journaling or warm up excercise or can be given as homework).
- Once each students has been given ample time to write their own answers to each question, you will start the speed dating component.
- Have students take their paper with their answers on it around with them.
- Sit students with a partner, facing each other across a desk. The students as a whole should be in one or two straight lines so that they can easily move from one “date” to the next. (Much like one would see with speed dating).
- When you tell them to go, the students will discuss only the first question with their first partner. Give them about one minute to do so. (Thus, the speediness).
- After a minute has passed, have one line of students stay put and have the other line move one seat down to a new partner.
- With their new partner, they will have one minute to discuss #2 and so on down until all questions have been discussed for a minute, each with a different person.
- After all questions have been discussed, debrief as a class. Discuss each questions and what new insights were offered on their dates.
This worked well in Mrs. Britton's AP US History class. For one, it keeps students up and moving, which helps students stay engaged. Secondly, it allows students the opportunity to interact with many classmates, some they wouldn't otherwise talk to. It also gives students various perspectives and often challenges them to question, analyze, assess, and defend their own opinion. Great job, Mrs. Britton!
Mr. Acton's junior high construction class helped me out by putting together a new wooden coat rack for my office! They were thrilled to have me take their picture! Thanks, Mr. Acton!

“Profe was my favorite teacher in high school. Even if I was having a bad day, I always looked forward to her class. She always showed compassion and a willingness to help if you did not understand something.”
-Tiara (Natalia) Goodman
“Ms. Baker (Profe) is an amazing teacher and mentor. She deeply cares about her students’ success inside as well as outside of the classroom. She inspired me to pursue my Bachelor’s in Spanish upon graduating from FC in 2014 and continues to be an inspiration to all those around her.”

#MustangMindset, Social Emotional Learning Coordinator
I have been working my way (at a slow pace because who has time?!) through the Science of Happiness course through the IDOE. The purpose of the course is for educators to carve out time for self-care. I have completed the first module so I thought that I would drop a few things in this newsletter blurb that I found helpful/interesting from the first module so that if you do not have time, you can still benefit. As always, if there is any way that I can help you, please let me know. Click the picture below for an article discussing how trauma in students’ lives takes an emotional and physical toll on teachers as well and then it has experts that weigh in on the best ways to cope.
