Resources for Block 2
Overview
The operations and algebraic thinking standards in 4th grade are composed of comparative situations and multiple step word problems. As you launch into the OA standards this block make sure you are paying careful attention to the compare situations in the chart below. Great Resources
- Georgia Math Tasks for Unit 2 are all focused on the 4th grade OA standards.
- The Core Academy in Mathematics is a Utah-based wiki with teacher created math tasks for each area of the core.
- Inside Mathematics has a variety of lessons and tasks based on the OA strand for 4th grade.
- LearnZillion can break up your lessons with little videos. Be sure to check the additional materials and about this lesson tabs for helpful info, student work, and links to more.
- Engage NY Module 3 covers OA and some NBT standards, but also brings in an element of measurement working with area and perimeter. Topic B has several lessons on patterns while Topic D gets at those multi-step word problems.
Buttons Task
This challenge task asks students to identify a pattern by a rule (OA.5) Bring it to life with real button manipulatives.
Number Lines
Math Expressions is weak on number lines, so use this OA.4 lessons to recognize a whole number is a multiple of its factors.
Uinta Camping
From Utah teachers come Utah lessons! Plan for a camping trip while working with NBT6 (a Unit 3 focus). Check out other Utah lessons here.

Broken out by standard, many are more "problems" than "games" but can be great review and practice without creating your own problems.
Reasoning About Division
Check out this great video on math talk (includes ELL tips) and then explore Teaching Channel videos. Most are under 3 minutes!
Fun Games
ABCya might have other "just games" but their math tools are pretty handy. Math Lines Multiplication to teach factors might be particularly applicable this block.
Place Value & Multiplication
Check out this video on number sense and multiplication. Just in case your kiddos still need some time with 4NBT5. All of these models emphasize students' understanding of place value while computing multi-digit multiplication.

The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives can bring in tools you don't have and provide worthwhile hands-on practice with online tools.
