Safety Reassurance & A Family Resource

While we are now 3 days removed from the tragic events in Texas, we are all still reeling over what transpired. As a school we will never lose sight regarding the importance of safety. We have a multitude of preventative measures in place for the safety of all children and staff. The biggest mitigation factor for a safe school is to ensure that all exterior doors remain locked. This is common practice at Hope Valley School. No doors will ever be propped open and unattended. We have cameras inside and outside of the school which are monitored all the time by the office staff. I have to say that we have eagle eye employees that notice everything and will make an immediate call to the office or via walkie-talkie if they notice anything peculiar. Whenever we practice our emergency drills, staff are trained and take them all very serious. Our emergency drills are often observed by police and/or fire and the feedback is always positive. If a recommendation is suggested we bring it to the safety team to make adjustments if needed. As you can see safety is of utmost importance at HVES! Safety is on the mind of everyone at Hope Valley School.

Updated COVID Guidance

Individuals who test positive for COVID must quarantine for 5 days. Students can continue to return to school on days 6-10 as long as symptoms have improved and they wear a well-fitted mask at all times including on the bus. Directly below is updated guidance from RIDOH or you can click HERE.

Please click on the link below to sign up for antigen testing.

Covid Protocols- Household Contacts

Asymptomatic household contacts regardless of vaccination status can return to school as long as they agree to test on the day of return and up through day 5 (if over a weekend for day 5, the student will test upon return).

It is important to understand that if the student has any single symptom they will be sent home and will be unable to return to school unless there is consent to have an antigen test completed at school when symptom-free or the family completes two home tests that are 48 hours apart from symptom onset. If any of these conditions are not met the student will follow the current RIDOH guidelines for quarantining and returning to school, which states, Household members who are not vaccinated and who do not consent to have antigen testing completed must quarantine while the infected household individual is in isolation, then start their 5-day quarantine.”

Mask wearing will be recommended for household contacts for 10 days from the date of exposure.

Free COVID tests

If families are looking for at home COVID tests you can receive 8 tests by completing this link:

Residential households in the U.S. are now eligible for another order of free at-home tests on USPS.com. Here's what you need to know about your order:

  • Each order now includes 8 rapid antigen COVID-19 tests
  • Your order of 8 tests will come in 2 separate packages (4 tests in each package), each with its own tracking number
  • Packages will ship free

Assembly Time

We had our first whole school assembly in over 2 years today. Students from the Chariho High School wrote and performed Pandora's Journey. They have been traveling to all the elementary schools to perform this wonderful play. The students were quite engaged and enjoyed the show!

Important Reminders

Invitations - We can once again hand out invitations to celebrations. As a reminder, if invitations go out they MUST go out to all students in the classroom.

Students Late to School - If you are bringing your child to school late, the expectation is that you come to the front door of the school to sign your child in. For safety reasons, please do not leave your child at the school to walk to the front door by themselves.

Absences - If your child is going to be absent, please call the school office at 401-539-2321. If your child happens to test positive for COVID, PLEASE be sure to email Nurse Tara, Ms. Donna, and Mr. G with that information.

Student Devices - Students in grades 1-4 have devices that MUST go back and forth to and from school everyday. Please ensure your child has his/her charged chromebook on a daily basis.

Snow/DL Day Information - Devices will need to be used if there is a snow day. Please see information regarding DL days for inclement weather days here. The emergency plan used as last resort is linked here as well. In case of a DL day I will be sure to inform parents like I did for the Jan 7th DL day.

Dismissal - Parent pick up for students in K-4 are arriving while prek dismissal is happening. PLEASE be mindful of our pre-school population and do not arrive prior to 3:10. The entire dismissal process for K-4 takes roughly 10-12 min. We have some amazing staff getting our students out quickly and safely.

Peanut & Tree Nut Free School - We continue to be a nut free school which means no peanut butter and no tree nuts including Nutella.

TOYS - Please make sure that your children do not take any toys from home to school. We continue to see an uptick in this and it is causing problems at school.

Identification - PLEASE be sure parents who are picking up children early from school have proper identification with them when they come to the front door. Ms. Donna is not always the one in the office and we must verify who is picking up the children. Thank you for your undivided attention to this request.

Parking at HVES - The parking spots that are numbered in the school lot are for staff ONLY. We are having issues with parents dropping off children in the morning and taking up a staff parking spot which is causing staff members to be late which is becoming problematic. Also, some staff end up getting blocked since we have double parking at the end of the day. If parents need to come to the building, PLEASE either park in front of the school or at Langworthy Field and walk up the stairs to the main front door.
