Bobcat Connection

Learning. Growing. Collaborating & Achieving @KrumHighSchool

November 5, 2018

Hello Bobcat families.

It’s hard to believe that November has already arrived! Extracurricular activities and service projects have filled our fall with grand adventures. Our students have completed twelve weeks of instruction and are gearing up to finish the fall semester.

As we enter November and a season of Thanksgiving, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to you for sharing your families with us. Our community has a reputation of possessing high expectations for academic and extracurricular performances; while also maintaining a safe and disciplined environment. In a day where the new generation is sometimes mislabeled as apathetic or self-absorbed, our students continue to break the mold through their philanthropy and service to others. Our students have participated in such service projects as a Kindness letter-writing campaign, Pink-out, Socktober, and Stockings for Soldiers. In addition, their perseverance and grit continue to provide inspiration even when the final outcome is not what is desired.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to watch our band perform at the Area UIL Marching Contest. For months these students have worked hard in perfecting their show - synchronization, props, costumes, performances, no detail was left undone. On Saturday, as they entered the field, one of the band members pushing a large instrument, appeared to fall as did the instrument. When the band member stood up, it was obvious, the student was in pain. My heart went out to the student, as well as the band as a whole. However, the fall is not what defined the moment. The moment was defined when the student arose. The student powered-through personal pain in order to serve the greater good. Instead of being defined by adversity, the student defined the moment with grit, fortitude, and boldness. During a matter of minutes, that student exemplified the strength of character, solid composure, and a strong commitment to a cause greater than self.

On Friday, November 9th, Krum ISD will present our Annual Veteran’s Day Program to honor all of our service men and women. We invite all of you to attend this event. We realize the freedoms we enjoy today were purchased at a steep price. If you are a veteran, we will have special seating for you on the field and the cafeteria will feed you lunch after the event. The entire community is invited to attend at 9:30 a.m. in Bobcat Stadium. We are thankful for these men and women of honor and their selfless service; as well as those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy. We hope you can join us to honor them.

Again, thank you for sharing your children with us. I am proud of Krum High School and thankful for the opportunity to serve each of you.

Sincerely yours,

Michelle Pieniazek

About Wendy's High School Heisman

The Wendy's High School Heisman was created by Wendy's founder Dave Thomas in 1994. Dave Thomas dropped out of high school when he was 15 years old in order to work full-time and went on to become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in history. While this nontraditional path led to his prosperity, it always worried Dave that others would follow in his footsteps and expect to achieve similar fame and wealth by not finishing high school or attending college.

Faced with this dilemma, at 61 years old, Dave enrolled at Coconut Creek High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and received his General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Inspired by this moment and with a desire to celebrate the outstanding achievements of youth in America, he launched the Wendy's High School Heisman program.

Twenty-five years later, Wendy's High School Heisman has honored more than 600,000 of the nation's most esteemed high school seniors who share Wendy's values of giving back to their communities, treating people with respect, continuing education and excelling on the athletic field.

The Wendy's High School Heisman is a joint program between Wendy's and the Heisman Trophy Trust, host and custodians of the Heisman Memorial Trophy®.

About Wendy’s

Wendy's® was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio. Dave built his business on the premise, "Quality is our Recipe®," which remains the guidepost of the Wendy's system. Wendy's is best known for its made-to-order square hamburgers, using fresh, never frozen beef*, freshly-prepared salads with hand-chopped lettuce, and other signature items like chili, baked potatoes and the Frosty® dessert. The Wendy's Company is committed to doing the right thing and making a positive difference in the lives of others. This is most visible through the Company's support of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® and its signature Wendy's Wonderful Kids® program, which seeks to find every child in the North American foster care system a loving, forever home. Today, Wendy's and its franchisees employ hundreds of thousands of people across more than 6,600 restaurants worldwide with a vision of becoming the world's most thriving and beloved restaurant brand. What Is the Proud Texan Scholarship?

At The Law Offices of Hilda Sibrian, we have experienced first-hand the benefits of a higher education. We believe that getting a college education is a key to learning how our world functions and to understanding how we can improve the world around us. A college education is also important in order to be competitive in the work field and to achieve one's career goals.

We also greatly value the support and inspiration we have received from our parents, mentors and teachers along the way. We have always admired those who are driven to help others and to better those around them.

That is why we are excited to "pay it forward" by awarding one $2,500 scholarship to the student who submits the winning video and essay in our 2018 Proud Texan Scholarship Contest.

We will award the scholarship in the form of a check from The Law Offices of Hilda Sibrian. It will be payable to the institution which the student provides in his or her application form (or a different institution provided in accordance with our Terms and Conditions).
