Instructional Technology Strategies for the 21st Century
Congratulations! I would like to offer you a warm welcome to our second semester I.T.S. 21 professional development training group. This program has been customized from the eMINTS instructional model to better suit our district’s staff and students.
I.T.S. 21 is designed to guide you through the process of developing instruction that engages students in the use of higher order thinking skills prescribed by the eMINTS National Center. This platform will integrate technology across disciplines as a fundamental tool for learning, while facilitating the development of 21st century skills.
Throughout the course of training you will develop units that will engage students in authentic contexts so they will gain deep understanding of concepts in your standards. Your classroom will become a model for learning that meets the needs of a 21st century global society.
Professional development sessions are designed to engage you in collaborative activities and discussions that enhance deeper understanding of eMINTS instructional model concepts in a supportive manner. It is difficult to replicate these activities and discussions in make-up or individual sessions; therefore it is strongly recommended attending each and every session. We realize unforeseen circumstances may arise that could require you to miss a session, please let me know as soon as possible. I will provide you with details regarding policies for make-up or individual sessions due to an unavoidable absence.
At the first session a procedure for session cancellation notification for times of inclement weather or other emergencies will be discussed. Please keep in mind if school is cancelled, the session will be rescheduled for a later time.
As your eMINTS Instructional Specialist, I will be providing quarterly onsite visits to your classroom. The purpose of the classroom visit is to provide you one-on-one support in your classroom as you begin implementing concepts you explore in professional development sessions. There will be times when I will provide an extra set of hands and assist students as well as times when I may model strategies or help you plan a lesson.
It is my hope you will find this training an opportunity to inspire not only your students but your colleagues as well. Please note the first session shown below. Together we will finalize a schedule with the specific dates and times of your training sessions. Have a great winter break!
