B.B. Owen Elementary

November 29 - December 3

B.B Owen Famiies

,

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving break. Our teachers and staff look forward to seeing all of our Bobcats back on campus on Monday! Doors will open at 7:15 a.m. Classes begin at 7:45 a.m.

Our Pre-K program is growing! Mrs. Erica King will be joining the Early Childhood Team as an Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) teacher. Many of you know that Mrs. King has been a member of our Communications Team for several years. She will be a terrific addition to the Early Child Team, alongside Mrs. Hartman (ECSE Comm Teacher), Mrs. Wilson (ECSE Comm Aide), Mrs. Romo (ECSE Comm Aide), Ms. Lowe (Pre-K Teacher), Ms. Hannah (Pre-K Aide), Ms. Philip (Pre-K Teacher), Mrs. Ortiz (Pre-K Aide), Mrs. Spathias (ECSE Teacher) and Mrs. Maza (ECSE Aide). Mrs. King will begin her new assignment this week!

Due to the expansion of our early childhood program and one of our teachers who will be on maternity leave, we are now hiring for the following positions at B.B. Owen:

  • ECSE Aide (Hours 7:15 - 3:15)
  • Communications Aide (Hours 7:15 - 3:15)
  • Long Term Substitute (January 5 - March 11) (7:15 - 3:45)

If you or someone you know is interested in joining our awesome team, please have them review the job descriptions and apply online at https://www.applitrack.com/lewisvilleisd/onlineapp/default.aspx?AppliTrackPostingSearch=location:%22B.B.OWEN+ES%22. Applicants can also send an email with their resume directly to me at spitzerj@lisd.net. Thank you!

Our office will be finalizing plans this week to allow parents to begin coming up to school to eat lunch with their children. Specific plans will be in next week's newsletter. Our goal is to begin allowing parent visitors for lunch the week of December 6.

Christmas/holiday class parties will be on Thursday, December 16 at 2:00 on Webex. Teachers will be sending out a link prior to the event. The district is permitting 2 volunteers per classroom to assist the teacher with planning the party, setting up and cleaning up after the party. If you would like to volunteer, please sign up on Voly at https://lewisvilleisd.voly.org/opportunity/index.html.

To do this week:

  • Students are encouraged to wear a college shirt or kindness shirt on Monday.
  • Make sure your child has a water bottle every day. Water fountains are still turned off across the district. We have 3 water refill stations on campus that students can use to refill water bottles during the day.
  • As temps get cooler, please make sure your child's first and last name are written inside each sweater and jacket.
  • Please make sure your child arrives to school on time each day. Doors open at 7:15. The tardy bell rings at 7:45. Breakfast and lunch are free for ALL students. Breakfast is from 7:15 - 7:35.
  • All students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes a day. Log minutes on the Read to Achieve log (see bottom of newsletter). Contact your child's teacher if you would like another hard copy.

Inclement Weather Days:

  • If there is severe weather at arrival times, which could include heavy rain, lightning or very low temps, our staff will be at the school entrance doors waiting for students instead of standing outside in the elements. We cannot risk having our staff injured during severe weather. Parents are welcome to park in the front parking lot or in the visitor spaces and walk their child in or escort students to cars on these days. We do not give out tardies on these days as we want everyone to be safe.
  • Our staff will continue to escort students to and from buses and daycare vans during inclement weather.

Birthdays

  • Parents are welcome to send cupcakes or cookies that are store bought or from a bakery for your child's birthday or 1/2 birthday (summer birthdays). Please notify your child's teacher ahead of time.
  • Please do not send goodie bags or balloons to school.

Attendance

  • Please contact Amanda Rabjohn, our attendance clerk, at rabjohna@lisd.net if your child is going to be absent from school. You can also contact her at 469-713-5950. If your child will be absent for a trip, family reunion etc, a Pre-Planned Absence Form should be filled out. You can request one from Mrs. Rabjohn. Please do this 1-2 weeks in advance of a planned absence.
