Reusch Report

I hope the Holiday season is treating everyone well.

Our goal is to create a culture where our students live out the SMS Core Values every day, whether they are in our building or not. During advisory, students go over these Core Values as well as the SMS Essential 10; but to further communicate these values, we've started placing them around the building through different posters and signs. For example, the stairwells and hallways communicate our Core Values with a large sign. We even have posters in every restroom sharing our Core Values with our students (check out the photos of them below). With this initiative for our students to live out these values, I want to take a minute to explain each Core Value:

Excellence in All We Do

We consider this our motto. In both academics and extracurricular activities, we strive to be the best. In this world, being average is just not good enough. Pursuing greatness is what we strive for every day.

We Care About Others

At SMS, we want to model, teach and recognize selfless qualities. Meaning, thinking of others before yourself is heavily valued at SMS. Truth Talks and Courage to Care are two programs we teach our students. Being respectful to one another is the core of these two programs.

We Pursue Our Goals and Passions

We encourage all students to write down their Academic and Personal Goals. Research has shown when you write them down and look at them, you pursue them at a stronger rate. Also, we want every student to be involved in an activity outside of school. These activities build self-esteem and self-worth.

We Work Hard

As noted in our test scores, our students are working extremely hard. We recently were visited from a school from another county. The first thing they said, “Your students work harder than our students. They never give up.”

We Exceed Expectations

Col. Jim Smith (who helps us with Veterans Day) told our students, “I moved up to Colonel because my Commanding Officers noticed that I did everything that was expected of me and then I did a little more.” We have made that into a sign: The Bulldog Way – We do Everything that is expected plus more.

Be on the lookout as you move around the building for our Core Values,

Mr. Reusch

Cheerleaders Get Bid to Go State

On December 15th the SMS Competition Cheerleaders will travel to Lexington to compete at the KAPOS State Cheer Competition. They will perform a 2 1/2 minute routine. They did not place in the regional division because of a technical deduction of the music. However, the judges reviewed their video and thought they were good enough and deserved a chance to compete at state!

Good luck ladies!
