Notes from the Band Room #16
January 3, 2016
Great News! --- Changes to the Band Schedule
In our Schoology courses you will find new lesson schedules to bring us through the rest of second trimester. Please check to make sure you know your new lesson group/day/time as these schedules begin tomorrow.
The changes are possible because my hours have changed - I will now be at school ALL day! This allows me to have more lesson times and more chances to help our band musicians after school.
On Mondays the Jazz Ensemble will continue to rehearse from 3:05 to 4:05.
On Tuesdays and Fridays I will be available for help (practice, playing test retakes, ensemble rehearsals) by appointment - just let me know if you would like to meet.
On Wednesdays, I would like to start a clarinet choir. Clarinet choirs have Bb (regular) clarinets, alto clarinets* and bass clarinets*. If you play clarinet and would be interested in playing in this group, please come to the band room this Wednesday to our first rehearsal. (*supplied by the school).

Private Lessons - the next step
Many musicians find the single best way to improve on their instrument is to take private lessons with a professional. The Attea band website has been updated to include GBS teachers, as well as other area musicians.
The better you can perform on your instrument, the more fun you have while playing. It's a wonderful thing!!

If so, please ask them to email me (areatherford@glenview34.org) to be featured in our interviews this year.
HELP WANTED
If your student is showing great interest in band and needs a musical challenge, please consider private lessons on bassoon or French horn. I can get you started, lend you an instrument and a beginning book, and recommend a private teacher. These instruments help complete the sound and balance of the ensemble.
Please contact me through email for further information.

Parents are invited to visit the band room.
Parents are encouraged to attend any rehearsal from 7:20-8:15 to see exactly how middle school band musicians learn and rehearse music. Even if your child is less than eager to practice at home for you, visitors will see how much our musicians love playing their instruments with a group. An audience makes it even more fun!
