Counselor Corner
April 2018
8 More Weeks
It is hard to believe that there are 8 weeks of school left. Although most students use this time to count down the number of days left until summer fun, the counseling office likes to view it as 8 more weeks of opportunities! We still have lots of events both this spring and summer for you to consider. Rather than coasting, use this time to complete your goals and finish up the year strong!
AP Bubble Session and Testing
The AP bubbling session will be Friday, April 13 during seminar in the commons. Students will fill out the pre-administration materials to make testing smoother. This is not for students who are in the Pre-APUSH class; they will take the test next year!
GPACAC Reminder
Collegiate is hosting a Wichita College Fair on Wednesday, April 11th from 6-7:30 at Wichita Collegiate Upper School Gym. To expedite the student check-in process and conveniently distribute personal information to college representatives, students pre-register HERE. This replaces students filling out the information cards as they walk around. Any student is welcome to attend!
Kansas State Assessments
Every year 10th and 11th graders take state assessments at ACHS. It is really helpful for students to try and be here during this time. However, if students miss, they are able to make them up.
Here is the schedule:
10th graders- English (this week) and Math April 17-19
11th graders- History April 9-11 and Science April 23-25
Jaguar Staff to Student Scholarship
Throughout the year staff members have paid money on Wednesdays with the goal of raising money for senior scholarships. If staff paid money, they were able to wear jeans and college or career shirts. The application, which is due on April 20, is located in the counseling office!
Reading Writing and Speed Reading Programs
Classes are offered in Wichita through Kansas State University's Global Campus. Check out the PDF! Classes are offered for ages 4-adult.
Butler Enrollment will be May 2
Any student who is taking a Butler class either at ACHS or on Butler's campus next year or in the summer will enroll with Butler on May 2. We have the lists of students who have signed up for ACHS dual credit classes, but if students want to sign up for summer classes, they need to listen to announcements and come to the counseling office on their own.
Prior to May 2, students should fill out an application on line for Butler.
Youth Leadership Butler- For Sophomores Only
YLB provides opportunities for Butler County youth to learn and develop leadership skills while they meet and interact with other youth from schools throughout Butler County. Participants learn more about the communities in Butler County, the challenges they face and opportunities they have for growth. Seven sessions are held in communities throughout Butler, September through October with the class continuing to meet on class project work until completion. If all expectations of the program are fulfilled, participants will graduate with a certificate of completion. Sophomores, please let your counselor know if you are interested!
