------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Parents/Guardians:
We will be conducting a Lockdown Drill on November 18, 2022. State law requires we conduct 2 Lockdown drills each year. Our goal in planning for this important safety drill is to minimize the disruption to classroom learning and avoid creating undue concern, while simultaneously providing practice for staff, students, visitors, and volunteers. In the event of an emergency the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our most important priority.
A Lockdown is initiated when there is a threat inside the building. A lockdown secures students, staff, and volunteers within classrooms while leaving entrances open for emergency personnel and law enforcement to clear the building.
We will be conducting this drill with the assistance of the LOPD, who have become invaluable partners with the school district in all of our emergency training. Afterwards we will spend time assessing how well we executed procedures and where we can improve our practices. If you are interested in learning more about our lockdown procedures, visit the Safety and Security department page located the LOSD https://www.losdschools.org/domain/1748
In addition to the Lockdown Drill, our third, fourth and fifth graders will be practicing a Reunification Drill. This drill would be used in the case of an emergency where the building was no longer safe to occupy (e.g. earthquake/fire). In this drill district buses are dispatched to the school and students are loaded on the buses and, in this case, taken to Rolling Hills Church where they will be ushered into the sanctuary where they will wait with their teachers. Parents will be notified via the district’s emergency notification system using contact information in our student database system (Synergy - ParentVUE). Once notified parents make their way to Rolling Hills Church where they will fill out a pick-up card and reunited with their student. We expect parents to receive this message at approximately 12:30 pm for this drill.
What parents of third, fourth and fifth graders need to do:
Verify your contact information is correct in ParentVUE.
Update your child’s emergency contacts adding people who might pick them up in this type of situation.
Be on alert on the day of the drill and go to Rolling Hills Church to pick up your child when notified.
If you are unable to pick up at this earlier time, please arrange for one of your emergency contacts to pick up your child.
Notify Leticia Padilla via email if you do not want your child to participate in the Reunification Drill: padillal@loswego.k12.o.us
The safety of our children is our most important priority and we care deeply that each child feels safe at school.
Have a wonderful day,
Rolling Hills Church - 3550 SW Borland Rd, Tualatin, OR 97062
The church is located 3.5 miles from Palisades World Language School, off Borland Road.
OCTOBER IS DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH
What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a learning disability in reading. People with dyslexia have trouble reading at a good pace and without mistakes. They may also have a hard time with reading comprehension, spelling, and writing. But these challenges aren’t a problem with intelligence.
Children and adults with dyslexia struggle to read fluently, spell words correctly, and memorize rote facts such as multiplication tables, among other challenges. But these difficulties have no connection to their overall intelligence. While people with dyslexia can be slow readers, they often, paradoxically, are very fast and creative thinkers with strong reasoning abilities.
Dyslexia can’t be “cured” – it is lifelong. But with appropriate instruction, an individual with dyslexia can learn to read, write, and spell and can become a highly successful individual.

Each week in October, we will feature a message about dyslexia in this newsletter. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s learning, please contact the school principal and/or literacy specialist. Another great parent resource would be to contact your school’s Special Education Advisory Committee representative. Picture Day Follow-Up
If you have not already ordered school pictures there is still time.
The most efficient and cost-friendly way to order is to visit mydorian.com, search for your school, click the green Order button that corresponds with your school picture day and place your order. This option is available for up to four (4) days after picture day. Once all of the images have been processed. Any student that has not ordered will receive an email with a unique access code and instructions to preview their image and place an order. All orders placed using the unique access code will be shipped directly to the student’s home.
Did you miss picture day or want to retake your picture?
Find your school’s retake day date and order information on mydorian.com by searching for your school. A student wishing to have their picture retaken should bring their original package back to school and return it to the photographer on retake picture day.
