Howe's Happenings Week 27 2015-2016

German and Reading Acceleration at LOHS

What did we do last week?

Reading Acceleration students continued their independent reading, applied the concept of Frayer boxes to a government text, and took their TBA on Democracy. This week, we will continue independent reading and discuss current events including and the Supreme Court nomination. Last week's texts took longer than anticipated, so we'll be focusing on genetics after exams.

Last week, German 1 students created their own children's stories about school. This week, we will wrap up our school unit with the unit test on Monday and then focus on preparing for final exams.

Last week, German 2 students turned in their magazines. This week, we will wrap up our obligations and free times unit with the unit test on Monday and then focus on preparing for final exams.

Final Exam Information

Term 3 ends on April 1, 2016.

Here is some information regarding final exams:

The German 1A consists of a speaking exam (describing a friend/family member), a written exam (pen pal letter), and a listening, reading and culture test (50 multiple choice questions). Students received an exam description and review packet in class last week. Extra copies are available on Moodle. To provide students with plenty of time to work on the written exam portion, the speaking exam and listening exam will take place on March 28. The reading, writing, and culture exam takes place during our regular exam period on Thursday, March 31.

While I'm not offering exact dates for exam study sessions, we will spend class time preparing for our exams, and I am present before school and after school each day.

Please encourage your children to check their grades, resubmit any assignments they would like, retake any tests they would like, and/or see me if there is anything else I can do to help them finish the term well.
